the first thing nova heard on the day that she would be starting at karasuno high school was tchaikovsky's swan lake, op. 20, act 2 no. 10. she slowly opened her eyes and turned on her side to grab her phone to turn off her alarm. but she hesitated and instead continued to let the piece play through her phone's speakers. her fingers had unconsciously started to tap out where they would be placed on imaginary piano keys, and she sighed softly through her nose.

after the piece finished, she sat up and looked to her closet, where her school uniform had been hung on the door hanger the night before. she walked slowly over to it, and changed out of her star-themed pajamas. once she had pulled on her thermal tights along with the rest of the uniform, she looked into her floor-length mirror that was situated next to the closet.

scared (at least, to her. really, it took a lot to make her eyes show much emotion) light blue eyes stared back at her. in the low lighting of her room, considering that there were no windows and her desk lamp was set to the dimmest setting, her light blonde hair looked white. nova frowned softly at its disarrayed look and walked to her bathroom to get her hair brush.

situating herself in front of the mirror again, she brushed softly through the waist-length strands, so that they sat straight and neat against her back. lastly, she brushed through her forehead bangs so they sat in a vertical line above her eyebrows.

she left her hair alone after that, not bothering with anything else with her appearance due to her mind being occupied with her nerves.

she grabbed her navy blue backpack from where it hung on the back of her door and then opened it to walk down the hallway to the kitchen/dining area. it was really a kitchen with a table for four placed against the wall on the right side of the room.

hana was currently in the kitchen, which nova expected. while she woke up at 6:30 every day, her mother woke up by 6:00. nova had asked one time why she did this, to which she had replied, "i want to be able to help you with as much as possible as soon as you wake up!" this response confused nova a bit, but she didn't think much of it since hana was her mother. maybe everyone's mothers tried so hard to help their children.

by the time nova sat down at their shared table after placing her backpack on the opposite chair, hana had turned around and was smiling at her.

"good morning! did you sleep well?"

nova hummed softly in response, slightly tilting her head to the side. "the same as i always do. i don't know if that would be called well."
