nova pursed her lips as she stared down at her phone. she'd woken up to get ready for school as usual and was waiting for yamaguchi to text that he and tsukishima had arrived so that they could walk to school together, when she received a message from the latter.

she looked down at the message strand. he'd sent a song by the arctic monkeys. that was all. she was currently trying to decide how to respond.

?

nova sighed softly and waited for a response, thinking that he would text back fairly quickly based on their last conversation.

tsukishima-san: i know you listen to mostly classical. you need more variety. listen to this, it's good.

nova did as he asked, and she did like the song.

you are correct, the song is good.

tsukishima-san: you don't need to state the obvious.

nova got a text from yamaguchi saying that they'd arrived, so she quickly got ready to leave, not wanting to try to think about why tsukishima would care to send her music recommendations in the first place.

"tanaka-san. is what i'm seeing real?"

"hai. very real. i almost couldn't believe it when i first saw her, but she is definitely real."

"her presence..."

"i know."

nova stood beside shimizu and tried to ignore the two boys who stood not far from her, one being tanaka and the other nishinoya yū, a boy even shorter than hinata. he was evidently the "guardian deity of karasuno" that sawamura mentioned yesterday, and he hadn't come to practices before today because he'd been suspended from club activities for a month, which automatically made nova wary of him. he might be a thug like tanaka.

shimizu had told her all of this and he thankfully hadn't come up to speak to her yet, if only because he seemed to not fully believe she was real. at morning practice, nova had been able to covertly slip into the gym, and now she overheard the two boys (loudly) talking. apparently, nishinoya hadn't spoken to her because he thought he'd imagined her.

but now, at afternoon practice, two sightings had convinced him otherwise. just from what she'd heard of him, he seemed to be a combination of hinata's and tanaka's personalities, which nova thought was worse than her imagined tanaka relative scenario. sighing softly to herself, she just hoped that nishinoya would only watch her from afar (he was crying as he watched her now. was watching someone clean volleyballs really so moving?) and not actually come up to speak with her.
