The view from the top of the tower was beautiful. The tall grass had all regrown. I suppose corpses make for dense compost.

It flowed with the wind, waving along like a Sea of Blades.

"Its captivating, isn't it? Being on top of the world." Cal said, sitting in the corner.

"The mountains are much taller than this. They are the top of the world. Or, maybe theres some other mountains on one of Julian's mystery continents even taller than those. Now that, I would love to see." I sit on his lap and lay my head on his chest. I listened to his heart thump and his lungs breathe. "You are a comfortable man." I blurt out. I blush immediately, but Cal just wraps his arms around me. I blush more.

"Good. I like holding you." Through his pants, I feel a poke. I smile, and start shifting.

"You must love it." I tease.

"Careful. The whole base would hear us."

"Let them. What would they do? I don't think the Reds mind the thought of a Red girl conquering a Silver King." I said. He holds me tighter.

"Or maybe I could conquer you." He said.

"I wonder if this balcony can be locked." I say, getting up. I begin to close it, and Farley steps out of the elevator, Clara in tow. I looked at Cal and motioned him to stop, and he put his belt back on. "Hi, Farley. Hi little Cee." I said to the pair.

"Hi Auntie Mare!" Clara shouts, hugging my leg tightly. Falrey steps out onto the balcony and gives Cal a nod and a smirk.

"Getting work done up here?" Farley asks with a smile.

"Yes. We are analyzing for soft spots on the base. This balcony is the best vantage point we have." The lie is instant, and even good, but wasted on someone who already knows its false. Farley shakes her head.

"You're a handful, Mare. An amazing, heroic handful." She said simply.

"Can I watch you fight from up here?" Clara asked.

"We can put a camera here for you to watch me. But this is an open target, and you're a very important little girl. You will be in the bunker. Your mother is going to protect you all down there. Far more heroic than some battle." I told her. She needs to see her mother as a hero, not me. Not as much.

She looks up at Farley, proud of her mom. "You will?"

"Of course, baby," Farley replied.

"The battle is near. I've already ordered the non-fighters into the bunkers, and teleporters are in position. Remember, this new base is built with Newbloods in mind." I tell her. "In the bunkers are fifty Guardsmen, a hundred Montfortans, and a hundred Nortans. A hundred and three of them have abilities, Newblood and Silver both. They all answer to you, of course."

"Naturally." Farley agrees.

"The Lakelanders are about two hours away. Protect your girl." Farley nods. I get on Clara's level and look her in the eyes.

"Hey, baby girl."

"Hi, Auntie." She answered with a bright smile.

"There are going to be a lot of loud noises. People will be scared. Hurt. Some... Might not return. And its okay for you to be afraid, okay? But you will be alright. I swear it, you will not be harmed today." Her smile faded.

"Okay." She agreed.

"I love you, Clara. I always will, no matter what. I will always protect you, as long as I live." Tears fight to come out, but I fight them for her sake.
