The Beginning Book 1

Chapter 7: Atlanta

My dad and I were in the police car driving to the city. When my dad started to use the radio to see if anyone would answer.

Shane's POV

I was chopping some wood so the group would have enough wood for the fire tonight. When the radio started to go off asking for anyone to answer. It sounded like there was a man and a female. From what I could tell I recognized the girls voice. The girls voice sounded a lot like Jess but I thought I was just imagining things.

Amy rushed over to the radio to talk to whoever they were. Dale told her to let me try and use it since I know how to. "This is officer Shane Walsh and I am trying to contact to whoever was on the radio." No one responded. I asked again but still no answer. That's when I realized that there might be another police officer out there.

Jess's POV

We finale ran out of gas. So we got out and started to walk down the street looking for gas. We saw a house at the side of the road. When we got to the house my dad knocked on the door and asked if anyone was home. No one answered so I looked through the window.

I saw a man and his family. It looked like the man shot them and then shot him self. I could kind of smell them. It smelled like the walkers that we in the hospital. That's when I heard something. I directed my dad to the barn to find two horses.

I went over to the white one that was there and my dad took the brown one. I heard my dad telling something to the horse. We then hopped onto our horses and made our way over to the city.

2 hours later

We finale made our way into the city on our horses. On the way there we saw a lot of cars that had been crashed or abandoned. Some of them were even starting to rust due to the rain storm we had a couple days ago. We just went right passed them, but I wondered if the people who owned the cars were okay. But in the back of my mind I knew they weren't.

When we were in the city there were some walkers but not a lot. We were just about to make our way around the corner when my dad thought he saw a helicopter, I didn't see anything though.

When we went around the corner there was a heard of walkers there just waiting for us. We had our horses turn around quickly and took off down the street but there were more walkers waiting for us. We tried to turn around again but there were already walkers there taking our horses down.

My dad and I were on the ground. I thought this was the end, but they were to distracted by the horses. We ran as fast as we could to a tank that was near by. During that time my dad dropped the bag of guns and his hat. Then we slid under the tank to where there was a hatch that opened. We almost didn't make it into the tank; but we did.

There was a dead soldier in the tank with us that came back to life. My dad shot it in the head which caused my ears to start ringing. It felt like my head was about to exploded due to the pounding going on in my head.

That's when we heard the radio go off. "Hey you two dumbass in the tank. Are you two alive in there?" Said the unknown voice. I just looked at the radio and then back at my dad. I didn't know if I was dreaming or if it was just the ringing in my ears from the gun shot.
