The Beginning Book 1

Chapter 17: The Kiss

When we arrived at the CDC it looked abandoned (well everything looked abandoned). We got to the front doors and they had this thing over them so we couldn't get in. Then my dad yelled, "Guys the camera just moved!"

"Dad your probably just seeing things or they just happened to leave the cameras on."
"Jess why the hell would they leave the cameras on?" Asked Shane.
"Because they forgot to turn them off; du." Shane just gave me a look like sometimes I don't know what the hell is wrong with you.

We kept trying to tell my dad that he was just seeing things but he didn't believe us. Shane and I tried to pull my dad back with all of our might. When all of the sudden the doors shot open.
"Did that just happen?" I asked.
"Yeah that did." Whispered Emily (who literally came out of no where).
"So are we going to go in or just stand here?" I asked. No one answered my question, but instead they just walked inside.

When we got inside a man came around the corner asking us what we want. My dad told him that we were looking for answers. Emily and I were standing next to each other wondering what the hell is going on.

I was also standing next to Shane not even really paying attention to him. I mean who couldn't pay attention to him his hair, his eyes, his mussels. Oh my god I might have a heart attack thinking of him.

Behind me was Daryl. Trust I love Daryl to death his hair, his eyes, and the way he always cares about me. I mean Shane does to, but if I had to ever pick between them I would not know who to pick.

All of a sudden Shane grabs my hand and started pulling me because every one else had started to follow the guy and I don't even know his name.

We all went into and elevator to get to one of the lower levels. The doctor started to talk to Carl. I put my hand on his shoulder being a little protective. The elevator doors opened and I jumped.

Everyone started to exit and Daryl put his hand on my shoulder and said, "Really you jumped when the doors opened?"
"Shut up."
"Come on let's catch up to everyone else." He said laughing a little.

We all entered a big room that was full of monitors. I was memorized by looking at of the monitors when the doctor said, "Hey you look like you like to play sports."
"Yeah Emily and I both play basketball and softball. We were on our schools team."

"Well we have a gym that has a court so you guys can play some basketball. You just have to go down the hallway take a left then a right. You should see when you take that right turn." Emily and I looked at each other and ran down to the gym.

When we got to the gym we found a bathroom so we change into some basketball shorts, a tang top, and basketball shoes with basketball socks. We played a one on one game and I won but Emily was close cause she can make all of those three pointers. I'm more of a lay up type person and try to fouled to shoot free throws.

We were all sweaty when we rejoined with the group. They were drinking wine and being all fancy. When we enter the room my dad said, "You guys look so gross."
"Why thank you kind sir." My dad just gave me a look like that wasn't a compliment.

Emily and I sat next to Daryl. This was the first time my parents actually let me drink wine. Let's just say it isn't that bad but when my brother tried it his face looked like one of those baby's that ate a lemon. Then Daryl said, "Keep drinking Glenn I want to see how red your face can get." Emily and I laughed at that.

After we all had our fun the doctor showed us to where we were going to be staying and then he said, "Hey go easy on the hot water."
"Wait did you just say hot water?" I said.
"Yes he did." Said Emily. We ran to one of the rooms (that was the room Emily and I were going to share with Daryl). I got to the bathroom first so I got to take my shower first.

The hot water felt so good. I wished that this had never happened. The walkers, no one being killed. I just wanted everything to be the way that it used to be.

After I finished my shower I got dressed and let Emily take her shower. I was about to go tell Shane and my parents goodnight when Daryl asked, "Jess where are you going?"
"I'm going to tell my parents and Carl good night." "Okay don't be to long."
"I won't." I said opening the door and then leaving.

When I was outside of the room I was thinking that I couldn't tell Daryl that I was going to go to Shane's room. Because he would probably tell me that I couldn't go and try to be all protective. I was going to go to my parents room first then I would go to Shane's room.

I walked into my parents room and I saw my mom, and my dad but I didn't see Carl. I figured he was taking his shower or he was with Sophia.

Carl and Sophia would look so cute together. I can see it now now a wedding day during the zombie apocalypse. "Hey mom. Hey dad."
"Hey sweetheart, what's up?" Asked my mom. "Nothing much. Just coming to say goodnight."
"Well then, goodnight Jess." Said my mom. I went over to give my mom and dad a hug and a kiss.

When I hugged my dad he pushed me onto the ground and started tickling me. He always did that when I was younger. I yelled, "Dad stop that it tickles!"
"I know it does that is why I'm doing it."
"Mom make him stop?" I asked.
"Rick." My mom said giving him a stern look.
"Fine." My dad got up and then helped me up off the floor. I gave them a hug and a kiss and told them to tell Carl I said goodnight.

As I was walking to Shane's room I started thinking of how would Daryl react if he found out that I went over to Shane's room.

I got to the door and I was kind of nervous. I mean it's Shane who wouldn't be nervous around him. I knocked on the door and he answered the door.

He was only in a towel so I knew that he had just got in out of the shower. "Jess I wasn't even expecting you. Please come in I will only be a minute just sit down on the couch."

As I entered his room I was thinking of how buff Shane was and why he answered the door in a towel. When I was sitting down on the couch Shane came out and sat down next to me. I think he thinks I need to talk to him about something.

"So Jess what is the problem?"
"Nothing I just came to say goodnight."
"Oh I thought it was because you had a crush on me or you just wanted to see me shirtless."

When he said that I froze. Literally froze. I could not speak when he said that. All that went through my mind was did Emily tell him because if she did I was going to kill her. "Jess,come on. I'm joking."

"Oh yeah hahaha."
"Wait do you actually have a crush on me?"
"What? No!"
"Jess don't be ashamed of yourself. If I were you I would have a crush on me to." I laughed at that and gave him a hug and a kiss.

When I gave him a kiss on the cheek Shane put his hand on my face and pulled me into a kiss.

As my lips touched Shane's I thought oh my god I'm kissing Shane oh my god. I felt like a fan girl. Shane pulled away from me and in my mind I thought can you kiss me again.

I looked into his eyes and said, "I have to go to bed. Goodnight Shane." Then I walked out the room. I just kept thinking over and over again. 'Jess why the hell did you say that you should have kept kissing him.'

I entered the room I was staying in. Emily was fast asleep and Daryl had just came out of the bathroom. "Your back."
"Yeah. Hey it's been a long day we should go to sleep."
"I agree with you; lets go to bed." I laid down next to Daryl and got comfortable.

As I fell asleep I noticed Daryl had his arm around me and I felt like it was my thirteenth birthday all over again.
