"so he just.. left?" manny inquired, her steps echoing down the east high halls. she continued to press hazel for details about the events involving ricky from the other night."yeah, i came back in the living room like 20 minutes later and he was gone." hazel explained, recalling how he'd mysteriously disappeared.
"i hope he went back home." manny sighed, "i still can't believe he didn't want me knowing he was there." she was honestly saddened that ricky didn't come to her. he always came to her.
"yeah, about that.." hazel hesitiated, debating whether or not she should tell the mendoza girl what ricky had said about her.
unknowing of what she was about to say, manny shifted the conversation, "should we take your car tonight to homecoming?" she asked as the girls walked past yet another dance poster.
"actually, uh.. i'm kind of, not going." hazel revealed, her expression revealing a touch of regret.
"what? why not? i need you!" manny exclaimed. the plan was always for the two of them to go together.
"i'm going bowling with miss jenn, nini, and kourtney. sorry. miss jenn is forcing me because she thinks i need to 'step out of my comfort zone' whatever that means." hazel explained. "do you think you can go one night without scheming? i won't be there to stop you."
"how little do you trust me? believe me, i can have one stress free night, hazel." manny chuckled, moving on. in the opposite direction, ricky and big red strolled through the halls past them.
"come on, dude! i'm just saying this is your chance!" big red tried motivating his best friend.
"the last thing i'm gonna do is ask nini to homecoming on the day of the dance." ricky shook his head. "but she's single and ready to mingle!" the red head sang with a grin.
"yeah! and i had to hear it from ashlyn who heard it from seb." ricky sighed, "i'm telling you, nini hardcore friend-zoned me." he reminded him, moving further ahead.
"then you ask manny and i'll ask hazel as friends!" big red shouted as he lost ricky in the sea of students, "we could all hang out together! like the good old days!"
🎶
manny didn't mind going to homecoming alone. she was honestly sick of all the drama and thought it would be nice for a change to just enjoy herself for once. even though she was a bit saddened to not have hazel by her side for the evening, she was happy her best friend was getting close with nini and kourtney.
strolling into the east high hallway in her red dress, she felt pretty confident that she would be able to make the night great.
her gaze scanned for familiar faces, and the sight of gina in a stunning sequin rainbow mini dress, with hair elegantly styled, brought a sense of relief. "hey gi." she greeted with a smile.
