The trip took less than an hour and we weren't definitely on Manchester. Rain stopped, but it seemed like it could fell again at any minute...
When my mom slowed down the car to park in the border of a road next to what seems to be a long farming field I hadn't yet completed to solve the Rubik's cube. Maybe later... I looked to the other side of the road. There was a house there, not so different than our own, but, quite more lonely... There was a big white van parked next to the house. I think I didn't really payed attention to more details because something else disturbed my focus. The man smoking outside, with his back on the wall, wearing a black shirt and dirty pants and brown boots, or dirty boots and brown pants.
- Mom, he's that man the doctor?
She sighed and rolled her eyes towards him. The man dropped his cigar and smashed it with the tip of his boot. Then we entered the house.
- Let's go. - She told while opening her car door.
- This doesn't look like a clinic... - I commented while opening my door.*****
"Christian" caught my attention. I stopped drawing the car I was drawing, got off the kitchen chair and sneaky sneaked into the living room where my mom was talking to a stranger, both sitting on our small green couch.
- That's a perfect name! "Chris"! - Commented the stranger. - Perfect! There won't be the need to change... - He interrupted himself when felt like was being watched (by me) and tried to clumsy rotate himself towards me. My mom didn't. She was looking down with her elbows on her legs and both hands together, with interlaced fingers. - Hi there! - He said, with half voice, like if he didn't really know what to say. - Are you Chris!? - I nodded shyly. - You're a very pretty... - He hesitated for a half second. - ...boy! - After a small gesture, his also interlaced the fingers from both hands. - Just perfect!
- He's going to be treated well, promise me... - My mom whispered and I think that's what she said.
- Of course. - He turned his eyes back to her, still smiling. - The customer has money, or he won't offer this much as he is offering...
My mom got up.
- I'll be there. - She told, simply then, made a gesture, inviting the guy to leave.
- Very well. I'm looking forward for our next meeting then. - He shrunk his smiling eyes towards her, and towards me, and then he moved to the door. Mother opened it for him to leave without a word.
- Who was him? - I asked.
- Business. - She replied and kept moving, upstairs, without looking at me. I went back to the drawing...
*****What did the business guy had to do with the vaccination!? Ah! My mother told me it was cheaper in this private clinic... Maybe that was the deal...
Mother lead me by her hand towards the entrance of the house.
The man was inside. He smiled at me the same way he did when he was at my house. He had "brown everything", eyes, hair, shaved beard... We followed him through a ordinary home corridor with dirty walls and floor... No garbage, just dusty. He then made a warmth gesture:
- Please, come in. - Pointed with all fingers of his open hand to an open door from a division.
I don't think she looked at me ever again. That last serious look before entering, like if I did something bad, was the last I've got to remember...
My mother entered and brought me inside by her hand.
There was a doctor behind a solid desk. The room was also dirty and a bit empty, but it did seemed to have some "clinical decoration", like a stretcher bed, what it seemed to be a sink with a closet filled with light blue or clear white items, and some breathing masks connected to something...
- Please, sit. - He was talking to my mom. She showed him her hand...
- Erm... - She sounded nervous. - I... - She turned her back on me. - I must answer a call. I'll be right back. - She took her smartphone out of her small black burse. That made me nervous... I looked around. The doctor smiled at me.
- Can I sit? - I asked.
Doctor got up from his chair...
- Better! - He exhaled from behind the green surgical mask hiding his mouth and nose. - You came for a vaccine, but, that would make a "boo-boo", right!? It hurts a bit... Not fun, right!?
- Yeah... - I replied with no excitement.
- Well... - He got close to the stretcher bed. - Let's make it be more cosy and painless! I promise! Up to this bed! C'mon, I'll help!
- I can do it. - And I did. No help. I rolled over it and then layed down facing the sealing. The big pale doctor with a peculiar accent smiled at me with his eyes. - Very good! Now, I'll make this vaccine to won't hurt at all!
That's when I've noticed his white medical white coat had a dog paw symbol along with some letters...
- Are you a veterinarian? I'm not an animal! - I told him immidiatly.
- Haha! - He laughed when gave two steps away and rubbed my hair. - We're all animals actually! We're just from different species! Humans are told to be intelligent animals, but, still animals! - When he got back he was holding a mask.
- I want my mom... Where is my mom!?
- Ah, she's right there! - He pointed at the door. I tried to move my head but couldn't see her. - She's still on the phone, but I can see her from here. Don't worry. So... If you put this mask on, you'll have anesthesia. It's fresh and pleasant... This is what makes vaccines do not hurt. Clinics don't use it, but I'm a good doctor and you're a good girl... - "Girl!?" The mask was already on my face. I think I did felt myself inhaling the fresh air...Pitch black...
