I needed self motivation, so I grabbed two of the favourite snacks I had stored under the bed: a pack of cookies wrapped in a shiny blue-metallic sort of plastic and an apple juice pack. It tasted good! I exhaled...
I still had a good clean outfit to wear: the black smooth leggings and the pink hoodie sweater. I had folded them and stored them inside of the drawers of the toilet paper closet, in the day he told me to wear something else. The leggings smelled funny and were a bit tight, but elastic... And I remember the sweater to be a bit big back then, but turned out to seem a bit small instead. The red boots were gone. He offered some black similar ones recently and I decided to put them on.
- Okey... - Placed the earplugs on my ears. - "Time to get out!"...
I climbed the stairs, one-by-one, until I reached the surface... The clarity almost blinded me as I approached the outside world, even though it was a cloudy day.
The song playing on random mode didn't seemed random at all: "Return To The Void" by "Shape Of Despair". Even the band's name suited... I was in the middle of some garden or park, surrounded by naked trees that were surrounded by grey buildings. There were two heavy metal doors on the ground, opened, to the stairway. Apparently I had been living in some sort of shelter or bunker that belonged to the guy or to an apartment in particular I think I saw two other similar doors a bit further, in different places, on the ground, surrounded by trees, surrounded by medium tall appartments. There were also small roads dividing the earthly grass of that small park, or medium garden.
The shelter, it wasn't good enough to protect them, the people that went there. If David was smarter he should had come alone into the secret room instead, but he didn't want his friends of family or whoever the rest of the corpses were to found out about me. That's the price he paid.
"Now... Where am I!?" The song I was still listening to was boosted more emotions motivation, as my tears came easier to my eyes when facing such a huge reality. I felt small... A small boy dressed like a pink girl in an immense gray silent unknown world!
- Hello!? - My voice was the only one. Where was everybody!? Did they all die on the shelters that could be everywhere around that place!? I tried to look into the appartments' windows. I saw no life, no movement, except branches swinging with the wind. I approached the entrance of the closest appartment with old looking brown tiles. It was open. There was a hole in where I would search for the lock. It was cozy inside. Sadly cozy. No decorations. Just grey walls and grey straiways. I moved up until the first landing, turned 180 degrees and moved up to first floor's landing. A dark wooden door at my right, other at my left. Both opened, broken locks. - Must have been the attackers! - They must have been a big group that attacked everyone... - Hello... - I gently pushed the door with my fingers. It was all messy inside! Moody footprints, dead flowers on the floor along with broken glass from their jar. The hall's ordinary cabinet had nothing on top. Nothing hanged on the bronze hooks on the wall. Passed through the first door and saw an apparent cozy living room, the back of a brown couch, a big TV, some yellow plants, but no people seen from that angle. - Hello!? - I moved forward to the open door, ignoring others. The familiar division was calling for me as it looked like a kitchen. It had bright tiles and closets that I explored immidiatly! I found some cakes and cookies and I began munching some of them! The white fridge was all wet in the inside, no light. Tried a orange soda bottle, but had no bubbles already. I made my way back but stopped near a slightly opened bright wooden door. I gently pushed it with my elbow as I still had a slice of homemade cake on my hand, not considering the missing part I was eating already. My eyes tried to adapt the absence of light... Windows were closed at it was dark inside... Then everything I had fell on the floor! There was a couple on the bed and a child between them, that looked a bit like me, I think... And blood! Blood all over the bed and on their clothes and faces. I ran out from there! Out from that appartment. Felt dizzy and nauseous... Had to recatch my breath... It was cold, the air outside. - Must be winter... What do I do!? What do I do now!? - I followed a road, quickly but not running. My heart was tired from running down the stairs, or from the horrific view my eyes just saw. Tryed to bypass the block of appartments until I found a building that, different from others, had red roof tiles. It was spaced in front of it. I looked into the other side and saw a road, but, the road was on the other side of a tall fence! I kept following the road between other appartments from that block, but, everywhere where there weren't appartments, there was a fence instead!... So yeah, I found myself on another "box", or "cage", or "jail"... I stopped!!! Saw movement! I approached the fence, but not too much... I saw some distant movement... A dar brown thing behind a white van. Couldn't exactly see what it was or what it was doing...
- Hello!? - I'm not sure if any sound came out that first time. - HEY!!! - I shouted! - The person or thing seemed to react: stopped first, than made some different movement. It was moving away from behind the van... It was... - Ohhh nooo!!! - ...A "beast"!
