All my life I'd heard the story.

Story of a girl who had arrived after a devastating storm to lead a legendary siege to take power so that she could end the war, just as a discovered prophecy proclaimed she would. The story of the restoration of peace from a century long war at great cost unto the destined savior who died not long afterwards. It was a beautiful story, a fairy tale. Only I came to learn that it was indeed just that, a fairytale left behind in place of the truth of what really had happened. I learned the truth that few knew many years after this prophesized girl had passed from life into death. Those who lived it alongside her knew their versions of the truth and made sure the truth of what happened was lost. Creating a simpler version that society would accept as an explanation, hoping to keep the full truth a secret. That's the thing though. Even then, they had not known the full extent of the truth, only she did.

Annabelle must have suspected or known they would keep the truth private but she ensured her secrets, her side of the truth, did not die with her. She had written her truth, her secrets, and the story of her life in a couple of journals. Journals she told no one of and hid knowing in the end they would find their way somehow to the person she'd meant them for. She knew in the end she hadn't repaired what she had broken, not truly. She knew that twenty years later I would find those journals because I would need to know the truth as I found myself on the same path she had walked. As a result of her mistake, destiny demanded that another must walk her path to maintain the balance that she had nearly shattered. I had no more choice than she had.

If you're reading this, whoever you are. You have likely read the other journals I had hidden with my own meaning you have read Annabelle's story, her truth. The same as I had. Now, you have reached my turn. My story and my truth to share, you have begun the journal where I have written my own story. I will write about my turn upon this destined path and you might think you know this story because you know hers. So, allow me to be very clear. We walked the same path so yes there will be echoes of the past in my story, but we are two sides of the same coin. So very different and yet very much the same. You know her life, her story, and her destiny but now it is time that you know mine. My life, my choices, and my regrets. It is time I told the story of how I faced the destiny in which she had left to me. This is the story you have yet to read.

In her journals she shared a warning and before I truly begin, I will warn you as well. If you are strong enough to handle listening to the darkness and tragedy of this path once more, turn the page.

If you are courageous enough turn the page and follow me down this familiar path where you will find while much has changed...

...Nothing has really changed at all...
