The Plan

I woke up in my bed to the sound of a knock on my door...

"Yes?" I called out while sitting up just before the door opened and I saw Caspian come through it as he spoke, "It's time for the council meeting, let's get Darren and go" he told me seriously. So, we went and found Darren before we went to the throne room for what Caspian described as the shit show. Only when we arrived, we discovered the meeting coming to an end and not at its start. "You fucking bastard!" Caspian shouted at my father as the other council members left the room quickly, "You gave us the wrong time to have the meeting without us!". My father seemed like he was expecting this response and to be honest even I was pissed, how were we supposed to help stop the rebel threat if my father continuously got in the damned way? "You'll be filled in on the plan, but I did not need any of you causing problems" My father argued to which Caspian exploded back, "You have to think about this, Atticus! They expect you to launch a full force attack your essentially playing right into their hands!" He shouted furiously. "Wait what?" I said in outrage, "We have no back up coming, no guarantee of it ever coming, and you decided to take them head on in an instant offense instead of setting up a defense first?" I demanded. "Enough! Both of you!" My father shouted sounding enraged and annoyed, "I am the king and I will handle the situation how I and the rest of the counsel have agreed!" He shouted with finality.

"As for the two of you" He said looking right at me and Darren, "You're staying out of it completely! Your little friend can stay with you if he wants to Naryssa but neither of you will be at that battle, Am I clear?!" He shouted just as he began to head for the door. "You can't just lock me up in the dungeons or tell me I can't do something because you don't fucking agree! I don't care what happened with Annabelle, you can't keep me out of this anymore than she could escape it!" I shouted at him as I went to follow him. Darren quickly caught hold of my arm and pulled me over to him as he whispered at me, "Nyss, don't" he said softly in my ear as a warning clearly more aware of how close my father was to losing his temper completely like before than I was. "Try me!" My father said as he left the room, slamming the doors behind him as he went out. It's funny how often Darren and I kept one another from coming to blows with my father to be honest. My father's plan was reckless and stupid but I was determined to face this head on, I had to help stop it. A lot happened after that. I wonder if I could have changed anything if I knew what was to come, if I could have prevented what came next somehow, but part of me isn't so sure it could be avoided.

Honestly, I probably shouldn't have said anything about locking me up, reminding him of his past commentary, because he ordered Caspian to leave early with the first groups of soldiers and the instant, he was gone my father had guards take Darren and I to the dungeons. Lucky for us Caspian had told us the camps location before he left in case, we had to sneak around my father but unfortunately, we found ourselves locked in a cell together, alone in the darkness. I was pissed off. Darren sat calmly on the floor as I paced in the tiny area, somehow managing to not accidentally walk into Darren.

Again, I just gotta say before continuing I really fucking should have seen it coming. "Damn it!" I shouted as I paced angrily in the tiny cell, Darren sat on the ground by the iron bars way too calmly with his arms crossed. "Correct me if I am wrong" He said pausing briefly before continuing, "But I am pretty sure that will do a lot of nothing to change the situation" he said. I fought the urge to punch the wall with a shout of frustration by pacing angrily instead in the tiny little cell, before sitting down on the ground in defeat with a sigh while my blood boiled with anger at my dad. "How can you be so damn calm about this?" I demanded and he shook his head at me before answering back. "You forget I've been to war, Nyss" He explained to me, "I've seen people I love die, I've killed people, and the things you see..." He said softly before trailing off into silence. Suddenly my anger and frustration dissipated, turning swiftly into concern for Darren. Suddenly I felt incredibly idiotic and inconsiderate.
