The smell of salt in the sea filled the air of the seaside. The sun shone brightly but Puffer and I were chilling in the shade of the parasol at our bench as we ate sweet, sugary donuts.

“What a nice day.” I said with a grin and looking at Puffer through my sunglasses.

“Beautiful.” Puffer said, tipping their straw hat at me.

“Is there a reason you wanted to hang out with me?”

“Of course!”

“So…?”

“It’s a nice day out and I’d hate to spend it alone.”

“Why me, then? I barely know you.”

“Exactly! I want to get to know you better.”

“Do we need to? We only know each other from our business with Jaws. Now that I’ve got my money back from Jaws and killed the person who sent you to kill me, I’ve got no business with them anymore. They aren’t my problem.”

We went for a walk on the beach.

“Don’t you care that there’s a major gang in your local area trying to kill you, Scad?” Puffer asked.

“They won’t mess with me anymore.” I replied. “I’ve killed 2 of them and broke the hand of another. They won’t want anything to do with me anymore.”

“You’re completely wrong! They’re going to keep sending people after you for the rest of your life unless you put a stop to their organisation.”

“That’s not my job. Why don’t you do it?”

“I can’t do it by myself. I need your help! We worked well together against Anchovy and we can work together to tear down the rest of Jaws.”

“We did work together well. We’d work better together against people who don’t know how your ability works. Still, I’ll only consider it if I get hunted again. Until then, I’m fine with living life normally.”

Puffer heard a noise and turned around. There was someone following us and eavesdropping.

“Scad, I think it’s already happening.” Puffer warned. I looked and saw a person in a bright pink hoodie with the arms ripped off. The person’s right arm was made of metal and looked robotic.

“What’s your business following us?” I asked, snapping my left fingers.

“I overheard you talking about Jaws and got intrigued.” The stranger said.

“What’s your name?” I asked, activating Truth again.

“My name is Star Coral.”

“What’s your ability?” Snap.

“My left hand’s ability is Compression. It absorbs sound and blasts it at enemies. My metal hand’s ability is Improvement. It replaces damage with robotics.”

“Your left hand has Compression? My right has that!”

Upon hearing that, Star snapped their left hand’s fingers to activate Compression. Puffer jumped in front of me and activated Barrier. The waves of sound bounced back. Star deflected the sound waves away with their metal arm. I could tell that hurting this person would be difficult.

I jumped onto the barrier and leapt from it at Star. They blocked my dropkick with their metal arm and blasted me with Compression as I landed. Puffer ran to my aid and activated Barrier around me. Star got closer and tried breaking the barrier with their metal arm.

“Are you ok?” Puffer asked.

“I’ll be fine but I don’t think we can beat this.” I replied.
