I chased after Shark. Coming out of the hotel room, I saw them get into an elevator. I had to think fast.
“Quick!” I called to Puffer and Star. I ran to the elevator door and they followed. “Break the door down.” I instructed Star. They punched it with their metal arm and made a hole in it big enough to get through. I could see the inside of the elevator shaft. The cables were moving. “Puffer. Get in there and use Barrier.” Puffer jumped into the dark elevator and snapped their fingers. The barrier formed and caught Puffer. The cables became stuck in the barrier because they were moving too fast. The elevator stopped moving.
I gave a thumbs up to Puffer to tell them that they did a good job. The rush was over. I climbed into the elevator shaft and grabbed onto the cables below Puffer. I slid down until landing on Playground. It was still active and allowed me to stand on nothing while being 2.5 metres above Shark. It was funny to see that Shark was stuck while Puffer, Star and I were all free to move.
I aimed my right hand down and snapped over and over. I hummed to give some impact to each hit. I could only imagine what Shark looked like, shaking and fearing the sound of their impending doom as the roof dented more and more. I started singing to myself to increase the power of the blasts but Compression absorbed all the sound so nobody would’ve known I was singing. The roof was practically spherical when I decided to use a giant blast with the power if my loudest shout. With one great screech, the roof of the elevator opened and revealed Shark.
Shark wasn’t as fearful as I thought they would be. They had a blank expression lit by the elevator light. They looked up at me and stared.
“We’ve both come so far.” They said. “Let’s let fate decide who the victor is.” Shark closed their eyes and raised their hand. With a snap, I fell downwards.
I was so calm until that moment. I had the advantage and lost it in a second. I tried to balance in the air and not let harm come to my body on the way down. 2.5 metres is quite a drop. It was scary. I’m not sure if it was because of how intense the situation was or maybe because of a bad landing but I blacked out before I knew what happened.
Almost instantly, I felt myself wake up again. My sight was a blur until it adjusted and I saw Star holding my head.
“Are you ok?” Star asked.
“I think so.” I replied, unsure. “What happened? Did we win?”
“We did. Your heel went right into their skull. I finished the job for you.”
Star looked upwards. Puffer was hanging on the cables above. They jumped into the elevator with us. Star punched through the elevator door and the wall behind it, opening our way to floor 2. Puffer grabbed Shark’s corpse and exited. Star picked me up and carried me out before activating Improvement to fix the elevator roof and door. I felt a strange sensation in my hip and ankle.
