So, I end up riding in the backseat of the Miller twins' car on our way to their house, so that Dane and I can get to work on our project. Shane and I already got a good start on our project, so he decided to let me and Dane work on our project while he works on other stuff. Hip-hop music blasts through the car speaks. I watch in amusement as both brothers bob their heads, at the same time, in the same way, in rhythm with the music. Yup, they're brothers alright. I giggle at this, trying not to burst into laughter. Soon we pull into their driveway and we get out of the car. I stare up at their house in shock. It's a mansion! Well damn. They must be super rich.
"Home sweet home~," Shane says in a song like tone. I nod slowly. "Our parents are the ones who are rich." I nod in understanding. "Anyways, come on in." Dane unlocks the door. He opens it, but doesn't hold the door open and it slams in my face. My short hair blows back in a rush at the wind created by the impact. Shane sighs at this and opens the door, holding it open. "Sorry Lena."
"It's ok," I respond as I step into their house and glance around. Even the inside is extravagant. An expensive chandelier hangs in the entrance of the doorway. Shoes are lined up nicely in the coat closet.
"Feel free to make yourself comfortable," Shane insists as he gestures to a large sofa. I take him up on that offer and sit on the couch. It's a little bit squishy, but also the material is really soft. "Alright, Dane, you and Lena can get started on your project. I'm going to make myself some tea. Do you two want some?" Dane shakes his head as he stands there with an irritated look of his face. Shane rolls his eyes as he glances at me. "It's our mother's special tea. She always made it a little bit more on the sweet side." I smile at that, but I notice out of the corner of my eye that Dane is frowning at this.
"Don't talk about mom as if she's here when you know very well that she's not!" He exclaims as he glares at his brother before turning towards the winding staircase. Shane stops him though by placing his hand on Dane's shoulder.
"I didn't mean to talk about her like that. I was reminiscing," Shane voices in a calm voice, "Look, I'm sorry. Can you please try to act like a well brought up teenager while we have a guest over?" Dane glances at me with a disinterested look before glaring back at his brother.
"Why should I?" He asks with a cool expression, "Our guest is nobody special." Why do I feel slightly hurt by that? Sure, I'm not a very known person or popular person, but that doesn't mean that I'm nobody special. "It's not like we have to impress her or anything." Shane seems to notice my hurtful expression because he gives his brother a firm look.
"Dane, Lena is our guest and it would do you good to act gentlemanly for once," he states as he grips his brother's shoulder.
"Tch, gentlemanly is your style. I'm a bad boy brother. Deal with it," Dane snaps as he pulls his shoulder out of Shane's grasp, "And I don't need to listen to you." With that he walks towards the stairs.
"Dane, where are you going?" I ask curiously as I stand up from the couch. He glances back at me.
"Isn't it obvious? I'm going to my room," he answers sarcastically, "Why do you care?" I scoff at his question as I unzip my bag and take out the chemistry project. Holding it in my hands, I walk towards him.
"Because our project involves partners, so we need to work together," I explain as I hold on the project, "I can't just go and do this by myself. I need your input too."
"Hey, you're smart, you get straight As, I'm sure you'll figure it out," Dane replies as he turns around and walks up the stairs. Unbelievable.
"Dane!" Shane calls out after him as he rushes up the stairs after his brother. I sigh heavily and flop on the couch. I hear the heavy steps of footsteps from upstairs and the sound of a door slamming shut. It becomes quiet for a moment before footsteps come down the stairs. Shane appears and stands there with an exasperated look. "Sorry about him. He wasn't always like this."
