Y/N had been laying in bed for hours, reminiscing about previous days and her father's letter. Had there really been no other choice for him? She would rather be tortured sometime in the future if it meant she would be able to have her father by her side for longer. She didn't even get to say goodbye to him. What kind of father leaves his daughter to fend for herself? And the worst part is, he knew he would get murdered, yet he didn't warn her. He didn't spend more time with her.
She feels angry tears falling down her cheeks, wetting the pillow under her face. She finally has time to properly mourn her father's death, not to mention her friend's. Her soft cries turn into uncontrollable sobs, which are purposefully muffled by the pillow. She is ignorant of the fact that Ghost hears her. He had been walking down the hall back to his room after getting a drink of whiskey to ease his mind, when he heard her cries.
He stays there, listening to her. Deep down, he feels sorry for her. He had been feeling sorry for her the whole time they were traveling, yet he cannot forgive what people like her did to him and his family. She will get over this loss, just like he did his. Although, hearing her cries leaves an uncertain feeling in him, something other than casual, disconnected pity he has felt for her these past few days.
He leaves once he hears her cries soften, signaling that she had cried herself to sleep.Afternoon came, yet Y/N still sleeps peacefully. All the previous days Ghost had forced her to get up at the crack of dawn. Alejandro and John, however, agreed to let her rest. The girl had went through hell and back, and they know how strict Ghost was towards her.
Her red and puffy eyes open slowly as she wakes. She had forgotten how it feels to sleep in an actual bed—the bed in the hotel could hardly even be regarded as a bed, more like a glorified wooden table.
She stretches her limbs and sits up, rubbing her eyes. Her stomach rumbles, so she puts on the raggedy dress she had been wearing these past few days (she makes a mental note to ask for more clothing,) and sets out on a hunt for food. Hopefully something more delicious than Ghost's strictly alible dishes."Mornin'," John greets ironically Y/N as she walks into the dining room.
"Are you going somewhere?" She asks upon seeing him gathering his guns and supplies. Before John can respond, Alejandro enters the room, his own bag with him. "You slept good?"
"Yes, I did," she refrains from telling him she cried herself to sleep in the middle of the night. How embarrassing would that be, if they knew?
"Good," he sets the bag on the dining table, "we're going away to meet with our other partners. Now that you've arrived, there's some business to take care of, so you'll be staying here with Ghost."She feels her blood run cold. That guy again? She does feel something pull her towards him, perhaps the fact that he looked after her at her lowest, but he was pretty clear he doesn't want anything to do with her and that he only pretended to be nice to her this whole time. She doesn't hesitate to voice her concerns.
"Why him? Can't John stay instead?"
The man in question chuckles, his ears adopting a faint red color, "I'm flattered you want me around, but these are the Colonel's orders," he pats Alejandro's back.
"Colonel?"
"Al here is a big shot," he teases the older man, who laughs in response.
"Sorry, hermanita, but we need John with us for this. Ghost is reliable, and he can protect you if anything happens, Dios no lo permita."She sighs. "How long will you be gone for?"
"Couple weeks, one week at best," John mumbles.
"I have to stay with that man for weeks?!" She exclaims.
"And you're such a delight to be around," the familiar sarcastic voice sounds from behind her, making her spin around on her heel to face Ghost.
"Never said I was, but at least I can be civil with people I don't like."
"You can say it how it is—you don't have the guts to actually tell someone you don't like them."
"Perhaps I can prove you wrong right now."
"Oh? Go on then, I'm all ears. Tell me."
