Minghao POV

Minghao picked up the Ikea dog stuffed toy that Lila loved almost maniacally, and handed it to her. He winced as Lila chewed up its poor ear, dragging it along with her to her bed.

"Come Lila, come play with this one!" Minghao cooed in a baby voice, squeaking another toy in his hand, but receiving no response whatsoever from the spoilt little dachshund lying with her soft belly facing up. Sighing in defeat, he stood up to clear up the mess of things on the floor. Tiktok was right, no matter how many toys you bought for your pet they'd always stick with one. So much for his hard earned money.

Minghao's phone vibrated from the dinner table. "Stay here Lila," he instructed before walking over to pick up his phone. It was so late in the night, who could be calling him? He pressed his phone to his ears.

"妈? (Ma?)"

"现在?已经9点了,你现在要我到你家拿汤?(You want me to go to pick up soup now? It's 9!)"

"我明天早餐可以吃别的呀。(I can eat something else for breakfast.)"

"好吧,快睡。我也爱您。(Ok, goodnight. Love you too.)"

Minghao couldn't help but grin as he put down the phone. His mother never failed to make him laugh, even if it was boiling soup till 9 at night. The Chinese male walked back into the living room, calling for Lila, only to find the bed empty of any fur creature.

Frowning, he ventured into all the other rooms in search of her. "Lila?"

Minghao searched high and low (well mostly low, since Lila was just a smol little bean), but to no avail. "Lila come out please you're scaring me." He raised his voice a little.

Feeling slightly more anxious than normal, Minghao stepped into his room, but no sign of the dachshund anywhere. Right as he turned around to walk out, he felt a bit of soft fur under his feet. Then, a furious chain of high-pitched screaming and yipping pierced his ears.

"Oh shit!" Minghao exclaimed, bending down to pick Lila up. He tried his best to comfort the dog, but Lila refused to stop barking. Any longer and a neighbour would probably call the cops. She tucked her paw in, wrestling her way out of his embrace. He sighed. Not again...

Junhui POV

Junhui blinked his eyes hard. Once, twice. He rubbed at them, willing himself to stay awake just for a few more minutes so he could finish reviewing his patients' files and finally close the clinic. Just a few more minutes till freedom. Two days till he had to step back in.

"Lucy!" He called out. His assistant popped her head into the office, "Could you help lock up? I'll be out of here in a minute." Lucy nodded her head. Junhui sighed in a different sort of relief more relieved than any other type of relief he had ever felt. The entire week had been utterly exhausting, and his back agreed with him.

"Um Dr Wen?" Lucy popped her head back in.

Junhui looked up. He was in the midst of packing his things.

"There's a patient out here. He says it's urgent." Lucy informed. Her voice could barely be heard above the loud yapping coming from outside his office. Junhui held in a curse, but he couldn't just ignore an animal in pain.

He plucked out white coat from his bag and slung it over his shoulders again. "Do we have its files?"

Lucy disappeared for a moment. "Yes, from a visit uh... two days ago?"

Junhui frowned. "Ok, pass it to me and let them in." He had just taken a seat and opened the file when a familiar figure with an overdramatic dachshund walked into his office.

"Minghao?"
