Ever since the late 1900s, the world has been transformed. Either for better or for worse, I'm still not so sure. I'm still figuring that out myself. It started small with the birth of one baby in DC. Then, the surge began. People were suddenly discovering they had powers. Some were small, others were larger, some were used for help and aid, but most... Most were used for self gain and dangerous activities. Depending on how these powers worked, they were sorted into two groups. Semblances and Quirks.
Semblances were made to reflect a person's inner soul and could only come forth under certain circumstances. Intense stress, heightened emotions, adrenaline, etc. But there were quite a few who had no Semblance. These were the most random and unpredictable forms of power.
Quirks were somewhat similar. Except these were present from between the moment of birth and reaching the age of 4-5 years. If you hadn't unlocked a Quirk by the age of 7, then odds were that you wouldn't have one. Quirks were more common to get than Semblances.
There is a few more forms of power that some people have, but nobody truly knows how they work and they're not registered. Well, except for one. There are entities known as Ghouls, humanoid creatures who are only able to feast on human flesh. To help them hunt, they have one of four kagunes, a type of weapon that helps them either defend themselves or kill. The categories are Rinkaku, Ukaku, Bikaku and Kokaku. Each one is different and allows for Ghouls to be a deadly force.
With the rise of all of these supernatural powers and all, governments all around the world thought it best to add new kinds of police. Enter, Huntsmen, Heroes and the CCG. The CCG and the Huntsmen usually worked together to kill Ghouls and stop them from terrorising humans. As for Heroes, they mostly focused on criminals.
And then there was me. A guy with no powers to call my own, yet still wanting to be a hero. Some might call the dream stupid. But everyone always assumes that to be a hero, you need to know how to fight. Sometimes it just seems like I'm more grown up than the others around me. Everyday I go to school, I always hear people bragging about how they want to be heroes to fight criminals and get money and fame. To me, it just destroyed the purpose of being a hero.
Even now, as I sit at my desk, writing this, my phone lights up with messages and headlines about heroes and their deeds. If I'm being honest, when I think about the whole situation, heroes sometimes scare me even more than villains and Ghouls. At least with the villains and Ghouls, you know what they're looking for. They don't usually beat around the bush. Heroes though? Sometimes the kindest and sweetest person you know can turn into the most despicable tyrant the world has ever known.
Kinda reminds me of The Boys and Homelander in a sense. But I won't go too deep into that. All I've really seen are the memes.
???: Yo! Mutasim! We're gonna be late! Hurry up already!
I turn to my door and shout back at one of my friends.
Mutasim: I'll be down in a minute!
Turning back to my journal, I quickly end it and shut it. As soon as I shut my book, I jump to my feet, grab my backpack and leave my room, heading downstairs.
Another day of school awaits me.
