The Avengers Tower stood tall against the night sky, the glowing lights offering comfort for New York City and their world's mightiest heroes. Inside, however, tension simmered in the air as Natasha confronted Y/N, the newest addition to the team.
The cause of this confrontation? An unlucky incident during a training session. The avengers had trained all day already and Y/n was getting tired. She was exited to spend some time with Lila after training, now Lila had joined the avengers, goofing off and playing with some equipment that lay on the floor next to Natasha.
Y/n was so tired but pushed trough relentlessly, she tried again and again. Eventually, Y/n pushed to far and it all went wrong. Y/n misjudged a move and accidentally hit Lila with some equipment. The air was thick with tension as Natasha, with a stern expression, looked Y/n in the eyes. "Y/n! This is unacceptable. You need to stop when you're growing sloppy, how many times have I said this? Natasha said furiously. Natasha delivered her final verdict: an early bedtime for Y/N as a form of punishment.
Y/N, fueled by a mixture of pride and frustration, wasn't about to take this punishment without a battle. As the night settled in, she devised a plan to escape the tower, go do some stuff with her friends in the city and with that successfully avoid her assigned early bedtime. Sneaking through the dimly lit corridors, she felt a surge of adrenaline as she approached the exit.
However, Natasha was not one to be outsmarted easily and had watched Y/n's moves closely the whole afternoon. She knew that Y/n wouldn't accept this punishment without a battle. Just as Y/N reached for the doorknob, a firm hand clamped onto her shoulder, bringing her to an abrupt halt.
"Where do you think you're going?" Natasha's voice, a mix of stern authority and exasperation, cut through the silence.
Y/N turned to face Natasha, a defiant glint in her eyes. "I'm not a child anymore, Natasha. I won't be treated like one. I'm not going to bed early and that's final."
Natasha's gaze remained unwavering. "This isn't up for negotiation, Y/N. You need to understand the consequences of your actions. And stop saying you're not a child, you are 17 for crying out loud."
Undeterred, Y/N attempted to slip out of Natasha's grasp, but Natasha, with the reflexes of a trained assassin, effortlessly lifted Y/N off her feet and onto her hip. Y/N struggled, kicking and wriggling in Natasha's firm hold, but the redhead held her ground.
"Put me down, Natasha! This is ridiculous!" Y/N's protests echoed through the corridor.
Natasha's expression remained stoic and she didn't react as she carried Y/N back to her room, unfazed by the young recruit's struggles. Once inside, Natasha gently lowered Y/N onto the bed, her grip still firm on her shoulders, trying to hold her in place to talk with the young kid. Y/n's frustration reached its peak, and hot tears spilled down her cheeks.
"You can't just do this! You can't just treat me like a child! Give me a real punishment, beat me or lock me up!" Y/N's voice quivered with a mix of anger and hurt.
Natasha sighed, the stern lines of her face softening just a fraction. "Sometimes, you need to be reminded that actions have consequences. This is one of those times. You need to learn from your mistakes, I won't ever punish you with something physical or lock you up, Y/n. That's not how the Avengers work, we won't ever hurt you"
Y/N, still clad in her daytime attire, continued to resist the impending bedtime.
"Y/n, change into your pyjama's please and go to bed" Natasha said firmly
"No! Stop Natasha, I didn't mean to hurt Lila! It was an accident, and yes maybe I trained a bit too hard, but I want to prove myself!" Y/n sobbed out, still struggling against Natasha's firm hands
Natasha, however, remained resolute. With a practiced ease, she helped Y/N change into her pajamas, her touch surprisingly gentle despite the circumstances. When Y/n finally had her pyjama's on, Natasha skillfully managed to lay Y/n down in her bed and tucked her in, with the kids arms under the duvet, restricting her movements a bit.
As Y/N lay in bed, her anger and frustration bubbling over, Natasha sat beside her. The room felt suffocating with the weight of unspoken words. Y/N's attempts to push Natasha away only intensified her own internal turmoil.
"Go to sleep, Y/N. We'll talk in the morning," Natasha's voice carried a hint of weariness.
But Y/N wasn't ready to let go. She continued to struggle and cry, her emotions a chaotic whirlwind. Natasha, recognizing the need for comfort, pulled Y/N into a protective embrace. The struggles softened into loud sobs as Natasha held her, a silent promise of understanding.
The night wore on, the moon casting a gentle glow through the window. Eventually, exhaustion overcame Y/N, and her sobs subsided into sniffles. In the quiet of the room, Natasha continued to hold her, a steady presence in the storm of emotions as Y/n finally fell asleep
As dawn approached, Y/N stirred in her sleep, her tear-stained face softened by the comfort of Natasha's arms. The events of the night had left a mark on both of them, a shared experience that, in its own way, brought them closer. They understood each other a little better, and knew were their boundaries lay
When Y/N awoke, Natasha was still there, watching over her. The room held a different energy – a sense of understanding and, perhaps, a glimmer of mutual respect.
"I didn't mean to make you upset, Y/N," Natasha finally spoke softly, her tone sincere and with a bit of regret.
Y/N, still grappling with the remnants of her anger, nodded silently. The conversation that followed allowed both of them to air their grievances, and slowly, the rift between mentor and mentee began to mend.
The early bedtime, initially a source of frustration, became a turning point in Y/N's journey with the Avengers. As Natasha guided her through the complexities of responsibility, Y/N started to grasp the importance of accountability within the team and finally understood why Natasha was so strict with this punishment
The night, which began with rebellion and tears, ended with a quiet understanding between Natasha and Y/N, they we're closer then ever.
