Once he had put Juanaflippa to bed, Charlie dialed Mariana's number. It rang a while before he picked up.

"Yes?" Mariana's voice sounded groggy, as if he had just woken up.

"Did I wake you?" Charlie asked.

"Mm kinda, but it's okay. What do you need, Charlie?" Mariana responded.

"Juanaflippa wants to go to the park tomorrow, and she wanted you to come along."

Mariana hummed on the side of the call. "Tomorrow."

Charlie nodded, then quickly replied, realizing Mariana couldn't see him. "Yeah, tomorrow, is that okay?"

"Yes, yes. Do I need to bring anything?"

"No. It's fine."

Mariana hummed again. "Okay. Good night, Charlie."

"Good night."

Charlie sighed softly when the call ended. He guessed it was a good time to talk to him. Maybe things will be alright.

Mariana met them at the park shortly after they arrived. He got out of the car carrying a small basket. He smiled sheepishly.

"I brought snacks." He lowered the basket so Juanaflippa could rumage through it.

"Oh, thanks. But you didn't have to."

Mariana nodded. "I know. I wanted to."

Both sat on the nearest bench while Juanaflippa played on the playground. At some point, she dragged Mariana to play with her. Charlie watched as Mariana pretended to be a charming knight, and she a dragon. Charlie missed this. Watching his husband and daughter playing together. Mariana sat next to him after a while. Charlie and Mariana sat in comfortable silence. Though Charlie knew he had to say something. And now he knew what choice to make.

"Mariana."

Mariana turned, his eyes glinting in the sunlight. "Yes?"

Charlie fidgeted with his fingers. "I thought about what you said. And I have an answer for you."

Mariana turned fully this time. His whole body facing Charlie. His eyes searching his face.

Charlie inhaled. "I am going to give you another chance. But you have to promise me that you will try. I don't forgive for what you did, and I don't think I ever will. But I am willing to give you another chance."

Mariana nodded and carefully placed one of his hands over Charlie's. He stared deeply into his eyes. "I promise."

Charlie gave him a small smile. "Okay."

Mariana grinned. "Okay."

Juanaflippa rushed over, demanding that they play with her. Laughing, they got up and played with their young daughter. Life was going to be okay.
