It has only been two hours since Bobby and Dean's fight. You sit with Sam in your room, not saying much as Sam flips through a box of John's old things. Dean couldn't have gone far, and you bet if you left right now you would see him walking along the highway. You could probably even convince him to come back if you really wanted to, and you do really want to. Sam did his own bit of convincing, telling you both Bobby and his brother need some time to catch their breath, and forcing them to share a house at this moment would be a surefire way to start WWIII.

"Come on Dad," Sam groans under his breath as he types in several voicemail passwords on a small silver flip phone.

"Did you try your birthday?" You ask, staring out your window. You bite into the skin on your thumb and nervously bounce your leg as time slowly ticks by.

"My birthday, Dean's, my mom's, and anyone else's my dad may know," Sam replies irritatingly. "Why did he have to be so paranoid?"

"Sounds like a hunter," You mindlessly reply which you know is of no real help to Sam's need to crack the phone's code, but then again, at this moment you couldn't care if the whole house burnt down around you.

A small knock comes at the door, and your heart immediately skips a beat as you hope to see Dean on the other end. Instead, your father peaks his head in, his expression fixed on you as he enters. "Didn't know you were in here, Sam," He says, widening the door all the way.

"What? You gonna kick him out too?" You snap, turning your gaze back to your window as you pick at your thumb some more.

"I... Uh... I'll step outside," Sam awkwardly smiles, removing himself and John's box of old things from your room.

Bobby closes the door behind him, making the room immediately feel ten times smaller. "I really don't want to talk right now," You say, not turning to meet your father's eyes.

"I know," Bobby sighs, sitting on the edge of your bed. "You know how much of a hard-ass I can be..."

"Yep," You cut him off, not wanting to hear his sorry excuses.

"Y/N," He presses, "You are the only blood I got left... And I can't apologize for needing to protect you."

"Cause it's your job, I know," You roll your eyes, hating how a simple movie night turned into such a terrible fiasco.

"It is my job," Bobby argues, his tone rising as you sit with your walls built up high around your heart. "And it will always be my job, whether you like it or not."

"Why did you come in here?" You ask the tension in the room thick as you and your father defensively glare at one another. "To tell me you love me and that you need to protect me? Because the disappointment is all over your face."

"I'm just disappointed you lied," Bobby snaps, his eyes narrow as he tries to speak his point of view.

"Dad..." You sigh, calming your nerves the best you can. "I am sorry that I lied to you, I really am... But what do you expect? You have never been happy for me, and you have never supported any decision I have ever made for myself."

"You think I have never been happy for you?" Bobby scorns, his voice close to a shout as you finally speak your mind. "I have been nothing but happy for you!"

"Oh really?" You scoff, folding your arms tight around your chest. "Because from where I'm standing, the only times you've actually shown a genuine interest in me is when I am doing something you want me to do."
