This chapter follows VERY closely with Season 6 episode 2 of Supernatural. I have switched some things around to make you more of the center of things. Also, many of the sections that follow the episode identically have been shortened so I implore you to watch the episode and come back if you can so things make sense.

It has been a month since Sam's resurgence. You and Dean, despite having built a semblance of normalcy for over a year, decided it wouldn't be safe for you or the people you care about to stay. In the weeks that followed, you packed up your home, the memories and comforts of the past year boxed away with the rest of your belongings. You moved to Battle Creek, Michigan, renting a smaller place suitable for the two of you and your dog, Dio.

The new house feels strange and unfamiliar as you unload several boxes into the living room. The weight of inevitability presses down on you, a constant reminder that this move is only a temporary refuge. Dean, determined to press on, busies himself with settling in. He takes one last tour of the gun compartment in the Impala, cocks Jo's old shotgun—a ritual that seems to anchor him—then closes the trunk and locks his keys in his toolbox with a resolute click.

Dio, sensing the unease, sits in his dog bed, his eyes tired and sad as you sift through a box of his toys. The sight of his drooping ears and the faint whimper he makes tug at your heart. You pick up his favorite stuffed animal and give it a squeeze, producing a squeak that momentarily perks up his ears before he settles back down with a sigh. "Don't look like that, Dio," you say softly, crouching to his level and giving him a loving scratch behind the ear. The familiar gesture brings a fleeting moment of comfort amidst the chaos of change."You'd think he'd be excited—new smells and all," Dean sighs from the kitchen as he unpacks the dishes, watching the interaction.

"I just think he needs time," you reply, worriedly glancing at your loyal companion. Feeling remorseful, you decide he might need some much-needed exercise. Rising to your feet, you dig out his leash and head toward the front door.

"Whoa, where's the fire?" Dean asks, taken aback by your sudden departure.

"I'm just going to take him around the block," you say, gesturing for Dio to come along.

Dean hesitates for a moment, a flicker of nervousness in his dark green eyes. "And what? Leave me to unpack the kitchen by myself?" he asks, his tone harsh.

"I'm sorry, am I a child?" you retort, scoffing at his tone.

"No..." Dean begins, then softens. "You're right... Sorry... We can go together, maybe after lunch?"

Eyeing him suspiciously, you nod and put the leash away. Dio drops his head and slowly walks back to his bed, huffing slightly as he rests his head on the fabric. "Just a few hours, Dio," you say lovingly. "And I'll make Daddy pick up all the poop along the way."

Dean chuckles sarcastically, his eyes narrowing and brows furrowing as he tries to brush off your obvious dig.

Meanwhile, in Lansing, Michigan, Sam is investigating a murder that occurred the previous night. He speaks with a detective, inquiring about the details of the crime, and learns that although there was no break-in, a woman is dead and her six-month-old baby has been kidnapped. Sam ventures into the home, conducting a thorough search with his EMF reader and other gadgets, but finds no signs of the supernatural. As he exits, he calls Samuel, expressing doubt that this case falls within his realm. Samuel argues that this is the fourth couple murdered in the state within days of each other, with four babies taken. Reluctantly, Sam agrees to keep digging. His eyes land on a security company sign in the front yard, possibly a new lead.
