The night creeps over the city, and with every star that appears, our love grows.
But the war is brutal.

That night you've been looking out of the window, just admiring the stars and the moon, as the sea waves were silently dancing with the wind.

Not a single soul was roaming around the coast.
Yet you were supposed engraved in sadness, from who knows your loved one may not come back one day? What if he died? What if something terrible happened to him?

You decided to not let those thoughts conquer your mind as you still kept up your hopes..

'I hope he has received the letter I've wrote, with my heart, and mind.'

You sighed at the thought of it gambling with scenarios in your mind, until hearing a knock from the door. The moment where you froze and stood still.

No sounds were made, as if time has stopped.
Living in the city of Dunkirk, after the success of the operation Blitzkrieg, where Belgium has officially surrendered.
The Germans passing by effortlessly and occupying The Northern region of France, or basically everything on their paths.

'No, it couldn't be. They possibly couldn't be here, right?'

You thought, and tried looking out of the window in hope that your mind could possibly be tricking you.
You felt goosebumps running through your skin, a man was standing there, helmet held under his arms, you backed up as you slowly tiptoed downstairs.

And there you were, at the end of the staircases, looking fearfully with anticipation at the door, a few steps were made from your feets, till you arrived at the door. You gulped, praying to God knows what, you could have sworn your eyes were watering with the adrenaline pumping through your veins..

With your shivering hand, you grabbed the handle of the door firmly and forcefully pulled it wide open you could hear a SLAM!! from it hitting the wall. And there stood a very familiar man, in a uniform.
You recognise your old lover of course, but he wasn't the same one you used to see everyday at home.
You weren't used to see him in combat gears, you weren't used to see him on the trenches like that..

The soldier sighed and decided to make a move, noticing your silence. He held out a hand extdended forward to you, and held yours, dropping on one knee as his head leaned in and kissed the back of your palm delicately while having a charming smile on his face.

The one you've longed to see a long time ago..

"Lieverd, you do know it is quite risky of us to be here at such time.. Must you not return back home? I'm sure you'll find the warmth you've been seeking for, the shelter you've wanted above your head. How do you yet not feel complete?"

You just stood there not knowing what to do, as the wind blew by.
How could you even go out with someone who barely is able to spend time with you?
Yet.. It feels like you've known him for ages now.

Someone whom you've known since your teen ages. It felt like it all have been torn apart, from all thou knows, the brutal war that has occured and triggered the whole world.

Would you even take the hand of such man, who believes in old romances?
A time where people believed in old love that has now died out to a new one?
Someone who'd keep their promises to their loved ones and come back?

They knew the occupier has his eye on us.

They whisper about betrayal and secret informants.
Their meetings must now take place in the shadows, like forbidden fruits that we pick secretly. Its a shame, yet that's all they could do.
They had to make difficult choices and risks in this time of life.
Even if the warplanes would have dropped a bomb any time now..

With that he held your shoulders with a firm, yet soft grip, looking in your eyes, those eyes full of mystery of what he's gone through, yet no one would know or even think about it it.
And then pulled you in a tight embrace.
You didn't know what to say, you were in too much shock to even comprehend or make any facial expression.

"Even if I'd die, one day, I promise you, I will die in your arms, where I seek your warmth. I'd share our last embrace, our last kiss, our last moments."

But all you could feel is his heartbeat, which calmed your breathing, you nuzzled in his chest, gladly accepting his warm hug.
All your worries, that now has been left in the drain, you were positive they won't come back, you were sure of it.

But will you seek it instead?
