The amber beer bottle was airborne yet it seemed to move in slow motion. It was overshot meant to hit an unfortunate soul and for a second Bill was certain it was about to hit his Thunderbird but it slammed and shattered on the roof of a car next to them. Yet, debris careened over from the impact hitting his car anyway. Ulyssa yelped from the back seat but she quickly stifled it with the palm of her hand. Alma merely flinched.

"What the fuck?!" Bill barked.

"Let's just go," Alma said, holding onto his forearm as if to hold him back from wherever his mind was leading him.

Bill flashed her a dark look and then stared ahead out of the windshield to collect himself. They were fine but his daughter was in the car and he felt extremely disrespected. If he had his way, he'd have been out of the car and joined the security in beating the bachelor party up. He couldn't out of sensibility, so he groaned and hit the gas pedal, jerking the car forward.

"It'll be handled," Alma assured him and took his hand into hers, squeezing it tight. "Sorry, that happened Ulyssa." She said slightly, turning her head to look behind herself but she only turned so much to check if her daughter was still asleep and unaware.

Ulyssa nodded silently, especially after seeing something like that. Sure, she had been to plenty of rock shows where she'd seen fights break out from a mosh pit but she was in an unfamiliar place thousands of miles from home. There was no music as a soundtrack for pointless male aggression here. She sat in the backseat feeling a bit burnt out from being overstimulated. All of her experiences in NYC catching up to her. Alma was right she should have relaxed more while on vacation. However, it wasn't so much from being in the club but also seeing her friends' dynamic with the place and her boyfriend. They really ruled the roost there. She remembered Alma telling her she had moved because New York City was beginning to feel too busy and she wanted something more quiet. Now, she knew exactly what she meant by too busy. It put a lot of things in perspective for her. Especially when it came to Echo.

Her friend wanted to raise her outside of chaos. Wanted to keep her innocent for as long as she possibly could. But she could understand Bill's need for them to be with him in NYC, he was a good dad to his daughter that much she could tell while being there. She obviously couldn't understand the depth of these two parents' situation. So her only conclusion is that Alma wanted an easy unassuming life for Echo, so she kept her away.

...

The rest of Ulyssa's trip to New York was just fine. They went to a Broadway show, just her and Alma on her last night. Bill had managed to get tickets from a theater promoter the night they were at Trigger Finger. Though while she enjoyed it everything just seemed so boring in comparison to their night in the club. It was fun because it wasn't something she had ever experienced but also because she was being treated like someone with power, being doted on in the same way her friends with power had in that place. She could see how one could be drunk on that feeling, nearly never having to lift a finger.
