Tourism in Turkey is an important sector for the country's economy. The ratio of tourism revenues to exports is 16.7%. [2] Tourism activities in the countryare under the responsibility of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Turkey . There are many touristic places in Turkey that reflect the history and culture of the country, andtouristic activities are also carried out on the shores of the Mediterranean and Aegean Seas . In recent years, the countryhas become popular in health tourism .

Istanbul , Turkey's largest city , hosts many ancient buildings as it is the capital of the Byzantine and Ottoman Empires . Sultan Ahmet Mosque , Hagia Sophia and Topkapi Palace are a few of them. Other important tourism areas; Ephesus , Troy , Pergamon , Side , House of Virgin Mary , as well as Cappadocia , Nemrut and Pamukkale regions from the Roman Empire period.
Beach areas are generally an important tourism area for people living in various cities of Turkey and tourists from Western Europe . The most important beaches start from the Aegean coast and end near Antalya in the Mediterranean. Bodrum , Çeşme , Fethiye , Marmaris , Kuşadası and Alanya are important holiday regions.
