Outrunning Death

Pitch black
Heart attack
Heavy feet
Fiery heat
Danger sounds
Making rounds
Don't stop now
Holy cow
Out of breath
Close to death
Faster still
Down the hill
Duck and hide
To survive

Silence as the footsteps fade
An ending to this escapade
Surprised that I am still alive
My body still in overdrive
Chest rising slowly up and down
Mind wracked with fear of being found
I count the seconds inching past
Each minute possibly my last
This thought hangs on my every breath
I should have never run from death

He's back
No slack
Rushing winds
Forgotten sins
Trembling, falling
Hell is calling
Hoping, praying
No more playing
Try to bargain
Holy jargon
Growing light
Do not fight
Peace so tender
Sweet surrender
