Chapter One

I rummage through my bag as I look for the keys to the front door. Letting out a hum as I finally find and grab them, placing it inside the lock. After hearing the clicking of the lock I open the door and walk into the house, going straight towards the living room.

"Hey, I'm back." I call out looking around, noticing the empty room. "I have a surprise I think you'll like." Still hearing nothing, I place my bag on the couch and walk around the house until I end up in front of the office doors.

I quietly open them and notice L is deeply focused on his work. Smiling, I walk up behind him and place the box I was holding in my hands on his desk before wrapping my arms tightly around him.

L flinches due to the box making a small sound as it sits on top of the desk but he quickly relaxes as he feels arms wrap around him. He then hums before speaking up. "Welcome home love." I kiss him on the cheek before replying back.

"How was your day? Are you almost done with this case?" Before he can respond I pipe up again. "Oh wait. We can talk about this after your surprise." I let go of him as I grin. He turns his chair to face me with a quizzical expression.

I pick up the box from his desk and take it out of its plastic bag. "Take a guess what it might be." His eyes light up and I laugh softly. "Cake." Without responding I walk out of the room and to the kitchen as L follows me closely.

Placing the box on the counter I turn to grab two plates, a knife, and two forks. As I turn back around L has a giant glob of the frosting on his finger and I try to glare at him but I can't contain my smile. He licks his finger before grabbing one of the plates and the knife.

He cuts a piece of the cake and places it onto the plate sliding it over to me before cutting himself a slice. "Thanks." I say as I laugh at his happy expression. He simply nods in response as he stares at his slice getting ready to eat it. "So," I pipe up. "How's your case going? Almost done with it?"

He nods again as he finishes the bite of cake in his mouth. "Yes. I just have to finish writing up my report and I'll be officially done with it." My eyes sparkle.

"Nice." I lean against the kitchen counter as I continue. "I guess we'll both have some downtime for a bit then? We should go out and do something after you finish." I hint, hopeful that he doesn't have another case lined up right away.

"Like a date?" He pauses thinking for a second. "Hm, yes we should. We haven't had one in a while. I don't have another case lined up so that works." I smile happily. "I was hoping you didn't have another case. Good, I'm excited." He gives me a soft smile as he finishes his cake.

"I was planning on taking a small break so this works perfectly." I grab his hand and wrap it around my waist. Placing my hands on his shoulders I look up at him and give him a quick kiss on his lips making him grab my waist a bit tighter.

As we part I smile up at him with a large grin. "Alright, get to work now so we can plan what we'll be doing on our date. He chuckles and rests his forehead on mine. "Alright, alright. I'm going." He slowly lets go of me and walks back into his office to finish up his report.

I walk to the sofa, sitting down, as I turn on the TV waiting for L to come out of the office and watch a random movie that was on. I move my bag onto the floor for me to put away later as I get more comfortable on the sofa.

I hear footsteps and I turn around to see L coming into the living room. He quickly sits on the couch next to me as I stare at him with a smile. "All done?" He nods, making my smile grow.

"All done. No more cases for the time being." My eyes sparkle as I ask, "Okay so, any ideas for our next date? I thought of two ideas. We could go for dinner and a movie, or we could stay in and bake something together."
