The Eevee woke up to voices.
Unfamiliar communications between unknown beings.
White lights shine through frosted glass.
Silhouettes of creatures barely show through the panel.
The creatures stare at the fox, floating in a tube."Other than the weird dreams, the test is going to plan." One of the voices explain.
"Good. The boss wouldn't be happy if it wasn't." A more stern voice replies.
Steps are heard around the Eevee.
One of the figures steps around the glass.
They're walking on two legs, covered by a gray-blue material. In their two arms lies a clipboard and pen.
Fear overtakes the fox's mind.
They try to run, but the tube blocks any way out.
The clipboard figure makes a clicking sound, and then begins writing something down.
"Subject is alerted, heart rate increasing." Another figure says from behind the panel. The fox begins to lean against the tube, trying to get as far away from this figure.
They keep stepping closer, until they're practically at the glass.
"Opening tube, hold the creature still please." The stern voice announces.
The Eevee feels a shock of electricity shoot through them.
Their muscles immediately become paralyzed. The glass tube slides up, allowing the figure to reach towards the creature.
The brown fox is unable to to anything as they get picked up.
"Transformation seems to have gone well." The Stern figure examines.
They put the fox back into the tube, and walks back.
A hissing noise fills the air and the tube slides back around the Eevee.Their muscles slowly regain movement as they begin to shake.
"Subject is afraid." A voice says.
Eevee watches the figure stare at them with soulless eyes.
"They must have already forgotten what they were before." The stern figure replies.
They step closer to the fox, which tips them over the edge.Using Quick attack to slam into the glass, they attempt to break it.
Shards of the once-tube fall around them as they make a mad dash to the door.
The door flies into the wall its hinged to, the force of the fox running into it embeds into the wall.
The hallways feel more dead than the test chamber.
Gray and pristine white are the only colors, with no vibrancy even thinking about showing up.It almost makes the fox miss the alien greens the tube gave off.
But not enough to make them turn back.
There's two figures chasing them anyways.
One of them dives for the Eevee.
It rolls out of the way, instincts almost returning. The creature's body gets lifted off the ground by the other figure.
They've carefully placed their hands out of the way of the fox's claws.
The Eevee tries to bite the figure, only to get a muzzle placed around their mouth.
It looks like the end for the poor fox.
Until they focus, their energy almost crackling around them. Then they realize, it is literally crackling around their body.
It doesn't affect the figure, until the energy collects.
The small shocks slowly form into stars, and they fling themselves at the figure.
Cuts and slices get embedded in the figure's sensitive skin.
Swiftly, they drop the fox.As soon as they hit the floor, it begins running again.
The creature dashes through the lifeless halls.
Their mind is running, whatever they did to escape the figure's grasp feeling both natural and unknown to the brown fox.
Moving through the halls, it slowly begins to realize the futility of running. The endless maze of paths and gray walls slowly getting to them.
Footsteps of the figures only making their head spin more.
Eevee knows that their not going to escape.
Then, light.
A window, letting in the sunlight through a hole close to the roof. The second time glass rains on their head is a welcome one.
Outside was beginning to seem like a fantasy.
Warmth spreads across the fox's pelt and they accept it gladly.
They never knew how cold it felt in that labyrinth until now.
But what surprises them the most is the colors. The bright green and yellow grass slowly swaying in the wind.
Stunning shades of red and orange paint the sky.
Small buildings of many colors litter the horizon.
Lights flickers on and off across the skyline.
Everything seems more vibrant after running in that place for so long.A hand grabs the fox's hind leg.
One of the figures is reaching through the broken window.
Eevee quickly bites down on their thumb.
Their hand retracts back into the building.
The creature runs away, free. They follow a grid like light gray path.
It wraps around the building, sometimes splitting into two and leading away.
Eevee continues around the building, something pushing to keep him near this place.
Until he finds what was drawing him in.
Nobody has followed them towards a dark green bush, hugging the building's many walls. He steps closer, his heightened hearing allowing him to listen to the animals inside the brush.
Their breathing is slow and calm.
They don't even know he's here.
Eevee doesn't even try to move, their legs automatically carrying them.
Stepping in the cool bush reveals the ones inside.A blue and white penguin lays in the left-back corner.
The yellow mouse lies next to the front left walls.
A orange and black pig takes the middle of the bush.
The green and brown bird sleeps in the front right.
A brown fox lies in the remaining corner, right-back.The creature watches them sleep, and smile.
Each step sounds less and less natural.
As they step towards the other fox, their paw phases through it.
Soon, their entire body is phasing through Eevee.
The creature adjusts their body to match the fox's perfectly.Unwillingly, Eevee shuts his eyes.
He tries desperately to stay awake.
Filling his mind with questions only makes his head hurt.
Nothing stops the creature from going to sleep.
Darkness greets the Eevee.Eevee's head shoots up.
He looks around, scared.
'What- Is-' His mind can't think straight.
Getting up isn't an option, waking up the others is too risky.
So he waits to see if another fox will slide into the bush.Nothing does, calming Eevee.
'Thank goodness that was only a dream.' He thinks.
Going back to sleep takes way too long.
Long enough to let Eevee's mind wander.
'Was that dream some sort of prediction?' He begins.'Could it be some sort of ghost haunting him?'
'Why did it feel so real?'
'Is something wrong with my head?'
'That didn't feel like it was me.'
'Was that thing even me?'He has way too many questions, and no answers for any of them.
But he does know one thing.
'I'm tired.' He stops thinking about the dream.
Eevee shuts his eyes and relaxes.
Sleeping hasn't felt nicer than before.* * *
