Chapter 10 - 'Avengers Assemble'/ The Final Battle

Tony prepares his suit to fire, turns to Thor, and says, "Okay, Thor. Hit me!"

Thor smashes his hammers together, hurling lightning into the back of the iron man suit. Tony sends the resulting overload at Thanos...but Thanos propellers his blade, holding back the blast. Thor uses Stormbreaker to bat Mjolnir at Thanos...Thanos snatches tony by the ankle and uses him as a shield against the oncoming hammer. Whack! Mjolnir plows into the dirt. Tony goes tumbling, out cold. FRIDAY tries to revive him and says, "Boss? Wake up!"

Steve slashes at Thanos. The Titan brutally bats him aside. Sofia uses her magic to try and break his weapon but gets knocked over. Thor attacks, but Thanos drives him through walls of debris. Thanos smashes his fist into Thor's face over and over. Thor calls for Stormbreaker, but Thanos intercepts it. He presses the blade into Thor's chest, trying to drive it home. Then, across the field...Mjolnir rises into the air. Thanos grins, about to finish Thor off, when...Mjolnir flies in, knocking the axe out of his hand. Follow the hammer as it flies back to the only other man worthy enough to wield it...Steve Rogers. Thor sees Steve holding Mjolnir and exhales, "I knew it!"

Thanos kicks Thor away and then faces Steve. Steve attacks, cracking Thanos in the jaw. Thanos tumbles. Before the TitanTitan can get up, Steve calls down the lightning and sends it crackling into Thanos' body. Steve leaps, trying to finish Thanos off...but Thanos rolls aside, head-butting Steve backward. Thanos gets to his feet, a faint smile on his face. He whips off his helmet and attacks Steve with his blade. Blow after blow. It's all Steve can do to get his Shield up. Thanos hacks the Shield to pieces, finally knocking Steve across the field. Steve lies beaten, half a shield still attached to his arm.

Sofia tries to attack Thanos again, but he grabs her by the throat. "I'm not afraid of you!" Sofia said as she gasped for air.

Thanos pulls Sofia closer to his face and says, "You should be. He throws her halfway, to which she lands next to Steve.

She groans as she rolls over and gets to Steve. "Come on, Cap'! Get up!"

"In all my years of conquest..." Thanos looks out at Steve and Sofia, struggling to stand. "Of violence and slaughter...it was never personal. But I'll tell you now what I'm about to do to your stubborn, annoying little planet...I'm going to enjoy it. Very, very much." Thanos gestures behind him as a rumble echoes. Thousands of aliens ring the lip of the crater: the Black Order leads a platoon of Chitauri, Sakaarans, and outriders. Q-ships, drop ships, necro craft, and Leviathans buzz above.

Steve and Sofia stand up. They stare at Thanos and his army, even in the face of overwhelming odds. Sofia turns to Steve and says, "We have to finish this now. Steve, I'm with you. To the end of the line." He nods at Sofia, then looks down at his Shield, tightens the broken Shield on his arm, and starts walking toward him. one man against thousands. All alone.

But just then, Steve's com crackles. He strains to hear. The com crackles again. We can make out a muffled voice saying, "-ap-...-comin-..." Steve shakes his head, trying to clear it. Slowly, good returns...and the words ring clear: "Cap' IT'S SAM. CAN YOU HEAR ME?"

Sofia turns to Steve and gasps, "Sam?!"

"On your left," said Sam.

They turn and see a portal opening in the distance—out of it...T'Challa, Shuri, and Okoye. Steve and Sofia smile. "Oh my God," said Sofia. "It worked." Steve and Sofia watch Sam soar over the field, then turn as more portals open. From another: Dr. Strange, Peter Quill, Drax, Mantis, Peter Parker...Kraglin and the Ravagers. "Steve...IT WORKED!! AH, HA!"

"Yimbambe!" shouts T'Challa in his chant.

"Yimbambe!" shout the Wakandan army.

From a third: M'Baku, Wanda, Loki, Bucky, Groot, and the Wakandan army.
