It starts with a dream.
"I love you daddy." I was a little girl.
"I love you too, soldier."
"Dad I'm in pain." Then suddenly I was 15.
"Well too damn bad. You will train through broken bones, you hear?"
"But tonight's homecoming!"
"You gonna dance to distract the enemies?" He was yelling. "Get your ass back to work!"
"I wish I was never born into this family!"
"You were just a mistake anyway! I wanted a son, not a daughter." He walked away from me, leaving me out in the cold morning.
I woke up easily. It was 0400. I wasn't supposed to be awake for another two hours. But I wasn't going to go to sleep again. I decided to get up and go for a run, 5 miles around the base. I finished in 30 minutes. I was not too fond of running but I've gotten better. I returned and went into the gym. I did my normal routine but with weights this time. An hour passed until I was finally done.
I went back to my room and took a cold shower. Once I finished, I put my hair back into the bun and put on some army pants with a green T-shirt my combat boots, and finally, my mask. I left base for an hour to go grocery shopping for breakfast. I went to the kitchen and made myself a cup of coffee and began cooking breakfast before Soap came out with a yawn.
"Mornin."
"Hey. Want some breakfast?"
"Yesh please." He sat on a stool at the counter and laid his head down. I finished his eggs, bacon, sausage, and toast. Soap woke up from the smell and sat up. I gave him a fork and napkin. "What do you want to drink?"
"Orange Juice please." I poured him a glass and slid it over. I turned off the stove and headed to Price's room. I knocked 3 times.
"Come in." I opened the door just enough to reveal myself.
"Good morning Captain. Do you want some breakfast? Eggs, bacon, sausage, and toast."
"Yes, please. I'll be out soon."
"Yes sir." I shut his door before doing the same to Gaz. I walked up to his door and knocked 3 times. I could hear him walking to the door and it swung open harshly. Gaz stood there in some black sweatpants without a shirt. He wasn't incredibly jacked but he had a very thin waist. His chest was quite large as well.
"Oh shit. Sorry. Thought you were someone else."
"It's fine. Would you like breakfast?"
"Is that what I smell? Sure. Let me put a shirt and shoes on and I'll be right out."
"Ok. I just need to go get Ghost and I'll make you something."
"You really shouldn't. He isn't a morning person."
"I can handle it." I walked away leaving Gaz at his door. I stood in front of Ghost's door. I knocked and waited. No answer. "Ghost!" I yelled. "Breakfast is ready! If you want some, come out!" I heard shuffling but decided to make everyone else their breakfast.
"Hey." Price said.
"Morning Captain. What would you like?"
"Am omelet."
"Alright. Is that all?"
"Yes please." Gaz wasn't out yet so I started the omelette. I mix the eggs in a bowl before adding in some water, salt, pepper, and garlic powder. I began cutting up some veggies I had into small pieces. I threw some butter into the heated pan and once it covered the bottom I threw in the egg mixture. I ensured it went around the whole pan and cooked completely before putting it on his plate. I filled half with the veggies, and some cooked bacon, and folded it. I served it to him and I saw him visually rub his hands together. "Anything to drink Captain?"
"I'll get it. Gaz is here." I look to the side and see him sitting there with a shirt on.
"For you?"
"Just a standard breakfast plate please."
"Ok." I made his eggs and threw the bacon and sausage on the plate and served it to him. Ghost still hadn't come out of his room. "Captain Price, does Ghost usually lock his door?"
"No." A quick answer. The best kind.
"Got it. If I'm killed you know who did it."
"Good luck!" Soap said as I walked back to the door. I knocked as a warning.
"Ghost if you don't answer in 3 seconds, I will come in," I yelled. No sound. "1." Nothing. "2." Small sounds. "3-" The door yanked open.
"What?" He was angry and his voice was raspy. His balaclava was on.
"Breakfast. Let's go."
"I'm not hungry."
"Did I ask if you were?" I retorted. He just grumbled. "Good. See you there." I walked away from him and back to the kitchen. Price was up making coffee, Soap was now fully awake and telling jokes. Gaz was just eating.
"How's the food?"
"It was great Y/N. Better than Price's." Soap then immediately looked at Captain Price who was eyeing him. "I mean it was alright."
"It was delicious. Thank you Y/N." Price said, eyeing Soap a little more before looking at me. Gaz just gave a thumbs-up since he was still eating.
"You're welcome. Is there any new information about the mission sir?" I ask Price. He takes a long sip of his coffee before smacking his lips and letting out a long "ahh" sound.
"Yes, there is. But we will go over it as a group."
"Yes sir," I respond then feel someone watching me. I turn around and Ghost is walking out. He is wearing a gray shirt and some cargo pants.
"Mornin' L.T.," Soap said.
"Hey Johnny." Price tried to hand him a cup of coffee but Ghost refused it. He started to boil some water and got a tea bag out of the cupboard.
"Fuckin Brits..." Soap muttered it under his breath, sipping his drink.
"I'll wash the dishes." I took Soap's plate and glass and eventually took Gaz's plate and Price's coffee cup to the sink. I washed them and dried them with a kitchen towel. I put them back in their respective places and joined them in the common area. Gaz, Soap, and Price were playing Uno.
"UNO!" Gaz screamed. Price looked upset with his two cards and his color wasn't on the table. Price drew 7 cards before putting down a blue on top. Soap looked sad but I saw something in his deck. I pointed to it.
"Put this one down." I leaned over his and touched the card.
"Oh fuck! You scared me."
"Sorry." He looked to te card. "Thanks."
"Mhm." Soap put down a plus four wild and changed the card to yellow. Gaz groaned and picked up the cards.
"That's fucked up Ms. Wretched."
"How do you think I got the name?"
