Lovely's POV
"Dede, why are you calling me so early?" I asked looking at my clock that read 8 a.m. It was Friday and the boys were due back by tomorrow.
"I just need to chop it up with you sis, plus... I miss you. Let's have dinner tomorrow around 3 p.m."
I sighed.
"Whatever you say Dede."
"Aight, bet."
I hung up the phone and began getting myself together for my doctors appointment. I threw on some skinny jeans and a tank top. I was tired and I didn't feel like going anywhere, and my outfit with my high ponytail showed it. I sent a text to Cole letting him know that I was headed to the doctor since I knew he would be the only one interested in going. I grabbed my Celine tote bag and threw on my Versace sandals as I headed out the door.
I pulled up to the doctor's office. I walked up to the window and signed in and I took a seat. As I waited, I began to hear a baby crying.
"Just please hush. I can't take all of this crying!" I heard a familiar voice semi yell.
I peeked around the corner to see Zoe in the waiting area as well rocking her crying baby. I stood up and went to help her. I looked at a frustrated Zoe, and she look as if she would burst into tears any moment.
"Are you ok?" I asked as she looked up.
"Oh, hey Lovely. Yea...I'm fine. He's just sick that's all" she responded.
"Oh, um... do you mind if I hold him?" I asked and she paused.
"Oh, um sure."
I gently pulled her baby into my arms as I hummed to him while rubbing his back. His crying began to slow down as he rested his head on my shoulder and five minutes later he was fast asleep.
"Wow! Thanks Lovely. You're good with kids I see."
"Naw, sometimes you just have to cater to them and soothe them. They can sense when you are frustrated. Trust, I've had my times with King. It took me raising lil Clay to realize that I needed to slow down and have more patience, but don't worry you'll get the hang of it" I said.
"I sure hope so, so what are you having?" she asked looking at my round belly.
"A girl" I replied as Cole walked around the corner.
"Damn, baby I been look–" his words were cut short as he walked up on Zoe and I.
"Oh, hey. Just talking to an old classmate. Zoe this is Cole."
"Nice to meet you" Zoe spoke sticking her hand out.
"Likewise" Cole spoke looking at her hand as if it was infected.
"Lovely James" the nurse called.
"Umm yes. Well, Zoe...it was nice seeing you" I spoke turning to leave as Cole grabbed my hand and lead us to the back.
"How are you feeling Ms. James?"
"I'm fine. Other than the nausea."
The nurse took my blood pressure and did her normal routine as we waited for the doctor to come in and perform the ultrasound.
"What was that all about?" I asked curious as to why Cole didn't shake Zoe's hand.
"I'm not friendly, Lovely, and you need to quit being so friendly as well. People aren't who you think they are" Cole replied.
Before I could respond, Doctor Brown walked in. She asked a few questions, and then poured the clear jelly on my belly as she used the probe to locate my baby girl. Coles eyes lit up as he heard the heartbeat.
