Chapter 3

Sam's POV

Ding*

I glanced at my phone that was on my desk a couple of feet away from me and Abby's name popped up. I reached for my phone and forgot to look where I was stepping.

"Shit!" I kicked my 15 pound weight.

I checked her message as I was rubbing my toe to make it feel better.

A: Hey Sam, it's Abby from tennis tryouts. I'm sorry to bother you but do you think you can drive me to tryouts tomorrow? Both my parents are busy. No pressure if you can't :)

I smiled when I read her text. I'm glad she trusts me and feels comfortable asking for help.

S: Sure! I'll be at your house around 12:30?

A: That's perfect! Thank you so much!

I wanted to text her more but I wasn't sure what to say. I think I really am starting to crush on her but I'm not even allowed to date her. Ugh! I really hate my parents' rule against dating.

I've had so many crushes but I wasn't able to act on them since my parents won't let me date anyone until college. It's their stupid rule to make sure that I won't get distracted from school work. Yes, that's right. I have tiger parents. Although, they do let me do a bunch of other stuff. They're not strict in any other way as long as I have good grades.

It was the same for my older brother. My parents let him party as much as he wanted as long as he got straight A's, just no dating. This also meant no sex because we don't believe in hookups. I know it's weird since most people just hookup and move on, but we've been taught that having a relationship before intimacy is so much better.

I didn't just want to brood over my sexless predicament, so I did what I always do when I'm not sure: go over to Kris' house.

Kris is my neighbor and absolute best friend. We've known each other our whole lives. Kris is 5"7' like me and has medium length brown hair. She has the most beautiful emerald green eyes.

Our backyards are connected, so I walked right over to her house. The sliding door was open because they're home.

"Hi Zoey, I'm just gonna go up and see Kris." Zoey is Kris' mom.

"Hey Sam. Kris is in her room. Feel free to stay for dinner!" I often have dinner at their house or Kris will come over to my house for dinner.

"Thanks. I might take you up on that offer."

I walked up the stairs to Kris' room and opened the door without knocking.

"Hey! I'm naked! What the hell?!" Kris yelled at me.

"Oh what's the big deal? I've seen you naked before. We're practically sisters."

"Ugh, just turn around while I put something on."

"Ok, ok, your highness." I don't get why Kris is so embarrassed to be naked around me. She's always been a bit shy even though she has no reason to be. I love her though and don't want to make her uncomfortable, so I turned around and let her get dressed.

"Ok, I'm done. You can turn back around." She was sitting on her bed now.

"Took you long enough."

"Hmph. What's up? You look troubled." Only Kris can take one glance at me and tell that something's up. I took a seat on her bed next to her.

"It's kinda uncanny that you can read my mind like that." I joked.

"Very funny." She didn't laugh. "But seriously what's up?"
