I wake up to the smell of pancakes and muffins, and the side of the bed where Gracie slept empty. I put on sweatpants before walking down the stairs and seeing Gracie with an apron on.
"Gracie what is all of this?" I ask, rubbing my eyes.
"Our date day! I want to make it special, so I'm starting off with breakfast!" She says, skipping over to me. "Your raspy morning voice is so hot."
I bite my lower lip at the compliment. "Did you go grocery shopping?"
"Yes you had no food in the house! Only cat food and no offense but not really what I was feeling for breakfast."
"Good call." I wrap my arms around her neck. "Thank you so much. You make me feel so special."
"I'm glad." She goes over to her phone and starts to play You are in love and takes my hand to spin me around. "You are special."
We start singing along to the song, while dancing around the kitchen.
"You can hear it in the silence, silence." I sing, Gracie and I's faces just inches apart.
"I'm in love." She whispers in my ear, during the silence in the song. "I love you, my girl."
"Thank you."
She raises an eyebrow and laughs. "For what?"
"Coming back. I thought after losing you a second time you would hate me forever."
"Ill always come back. No matter what."
"Promise?" I raise a pinky finger up.
"I promise." She locks hers into mine.
Then the oven dings and Gracie walk to it, making out a tray of chocolate chip muffins.
"Wow." I gulp. "You made a lot of food."
"I want this to be special for you. Everything's been so... so crazy lately and I just want you to relax for a day."
"Thank you." I say, hugging her from behind.
"Your so short." She says, turning to face me.
"I literally only a few inches shorter than you."
"Like 4. That's a big difference." She says, putting her hand on my head like she's measuring my height. "It's cute. I like the height difference."
"Weirdo." I reply, popping a blueberry into my mouth, me and Gracie sitting down at the Kitchen island.
"Emma."
"Mhm?"
"Please eat something." She says with a pleasing look in her eyes.
"What do you mean? I literally just ate a blueberry."
"That's the first thing I've seen you eat in the past two days. A singular blueberry." She says, scanning my face to look for an answer I don't want to give her, but when I don't say anything she keeps talking. "And before we broke up you barely ate. I don't want to make you feel uncomfortable or anything, that's the absolute last thing I want, but you look like youve lost a lot of-"
"I'm fine, Gracie." I say, taking a bite of the still warm muffins, the taste of sugary chocolate melting on my tongue. "See?" I take another bite, each one making the knot in my stomach grow.
"Thank you. You know you can talk to me right? About anything?" She says putting a hand on my leg.
"Of course." I say tilting my head up and placing a kiss on her cheek.
