Song: Love In The Dark- Leroy Sanchez
The Witch
James took me home immediately, his arm never unwrapping from my side.
All I could see was Malachi's face. His real face."I should stay with you," he offered. "I don't like you being alone right now."
"James," I whined. "I'll be fine. Gen will be here in a few minutes to stay with me."
"To be honest, the both of you need some protection," he said grimly. "If something were to happen to either of you, I wouldn't be able to live with myself."
"And if something were to happen to you," I said shakily, pausing as I tried to think about the devastation I'd feel if he were to be killed. "God. I don't know. I just want you to stay as far as you can possibly go. Just until I figure this out."
He cursed. "Why are you constantly pushing me away, Coralynn," he asked bitterly. "What do I have to do to prove to you that I can take on whatever it is that haunts you? Fuck— I mean— I meant what I said the other night. I love you. I want to be with you through everything. Even the scary things."
All I could see was Malachi.
I hadn't even noticed the tears in my eyes until I felt them run down my cheeks.
"I can't have your blood on my hands too," I whispered. "I'm sorry."
Flashbacks of the night I had first broken James's heart ran through my mind as I watched his face become cold and distant.
"Please," he said, his voice becoming softer. "Don't do this to me again."
I shut my eyes, more tears falling. "I'm sorry, James. You have to go."
I heard him take a sharp breath.
"Okay. You win," he said quietly, a soft broken laugh filling the silence between us. "I'll go."
My eyes shut tighter. I couldn't watch him walk away. I couldn't stand it. This pain was all to similar to the pain I had felt when my parents had been killed.
I waited outside until I could no longer hear his footsteps.
When I finally turned to head inside, I saw it. A golden jewelry box decked in diamonds and other stunning jewels. The edges were beautiful with ornate corners and swirled legs at the bottom.
I wiped my eyes quickly, hurrying to grab it and head inside. As I moved through my house, I could've sworn I heard the faint sound of a heartbeat. I set it down, taking a seat before it.
