Lola POV

"Lola!" A voice beamed from the kitchen.

"What?" I snapped back, this job is fucking stupid. Pete's Diner rarely ever has a customer, most of the time I'm outside smoking, which is the only thing that I actually enjoy about working here. Pete allows us to smoke inside the diner too, just not while serving customers.

"Lola! A customer is waiting!" Pete said, interrupting my breathe of smoke. I hadn't even finished half of this cigarette, fuck you Pete.

"Fine!" I yelled, walking back into the kitchen I made my way to pick up the fresh coffee waiting for me. Grabbing the pot, I made my way to the customers table, stopping when I saw who it was.

"Luke!"

"Hey there Lola!" He grabbed my wrist, pulling me into a hug. I forgot the coffee pot was in my hand, spilling it all over Luke and I.

"Fuck! I'm so sorry!"

"It's all good." He said, trying to stay calm after being burned. Why was I such a fuck up?

We both began to wipe ourselves off with the napkins at the table. "Thanks for coming to visit me." I said, trying to ease the tension of what just happened.

"You knew I would. I missed my best friend." Luke smiled at me.

We have been best friends ever since high school, and when we both graduated we decided to move in together. Luke has been gone for about two months, he wanted to travel around Australia. Who could blame him? He wanted me to come but I just couldn't afford it, my parents kicked me out the day I turned eighteen and I have been working my ass off at Pete's Diner ever since. It could be worse though, at least I have Luke.

"How was Australia?" I asked while sitting beside him.

He described every detail, visiting his family, meeting new friends, the adventures he went on, and with each story I grew more and more jealous. Finally he explained his flight back, which was by far, my favorite part of his trip. Yes, I'm happy that he went, I just wish that I could have been there with him.

"Have you gotten skinnier?" He asked, breaking my train of thought.

"No, why?" My tone was harsh, did he know about my problem?

"I don't know." He mumbled, dropping the subject.

The truth is, yes, I have gotten skinnier. Since Luke has been gone I've started a new habit. I know that I shouldn't be doing it to my body but I feel better about myself. No matter what, Luke can not find out, he would want me to find help or ask me to go to rehab. Neither of these would even be option, I'm in deep and there's no hope in saving me now.

"Earth to Lola!"

"Huh?" I asked, snap out of it Lola, focus, don't let Luke think that you aren't okay.

Sighing, Luke continued, "I said we should grab something to eat when you get off."

"Yeah, okay."

"Are you okay?" He looked concerned.

"I'm perfect!" I lied, "Wait, what time is it?"

Looking down at his phone he said, "5:00 pm. When does your shift end?"

Laughing, I responded, "Right now. Hold on, I'll be right back."

Getting up I made my way back into the kitchen, taking my apron off.

"Wait!" Luke called.

"Yes?" I asked, peaking my head out from the kitchen.

"We should just eat here."

"Okay." Great. I would have to eat.

"Can you just order for us? You know I'll eat anything!" It was true, one time in high school Luke came over for dinner. Long story short he took a bite out of a plastic apple, he was never invited back for another meal.

Grabbing my bag off the rack, I hollered at Pete, "Pete! Can I get two burgers?" Greasy food was good, much easier to throw up later.

"Yeah. Yeah." Pete remarked, I made my way back over to the table. Luke's head was down, typing on his phone intently.

"Luke Hemmings! Are you sexting?" I joked.

Laughing, he looked up, "No dumb-ass, I'm trying to set up at party."

"Who with?"

"Some friends from Australia." Luke smiled.

Pete came over and placed two plates in front of us, saying nothing. Both Luke and I ate quickly, finishing my last bite I walked over to the restroom. I had business to attend to.

When I left the restroom Luke was already standing up, waiting for me, "Took you long enough!"

"Shut up Hemmings!"

"I already paid. Ready to leave?" He asked.

"Yeah. Let's head home." I smiled at him. We proceeded to walk out the door, down the busy street.

"So my friend Calum just texted."

"Okay. So?" I questioned, where was he going with this?

"Calum, Michael, and Ashton are in town. They want to come over tonight." He said, showing me the text message.

"Will they bring booze?"

"Yeah." Luke paused, "I think you and Ashton are really gonna hit it off."

I laughed, "Right! Me hooking up with one of your friends? That'll be the day!"

Shuffling in my bag I found my pack of cigarettes, pulling one out I put it in-between my teeth. Luke winks at me, "Don't knock it till you try it!"

"Oh, shut up Luke!" I smiled, grabbing the lighter I lit my cigarette, allowing myself to be consumed in smoke.
