No, I don't want to talk about it.
No, I don't want to think about it.
No, I don't want you to say, “I’m sorry”.
And no, I certainly don't want to school to see that weird, sympathetic look on everyone's face.
I put my hands on my car, using all my strength to stop my uncle from pushing me into my car. "I'm not going. It was torture! Please let me stay home!" I yelled at the top of my lungs. He gave me one last push, trying to get me into the car, but I didn't budge. He was getting old.
"Ariel Michelle Langton. get yourself in this car and go to school. Now.” His voice was firm, and didn't waver at all. I winced at hearing my full name (no one ever used my full name unless they were angry with me).
My hands started to sweat as I could felt his rage coming on me. “But…"
“Go."
“Last time wasn’t the best and"
“Ariel Michelle Langton get your ass in that mother fucking car and get in that dumb ass school!"
That was the first time I heard him swear. And it was at me, I slowly turned around to meet his face inches away from mine and as red as a tomato. What made it worse was that Carson and his brother, Ryan heard the whole thing.
We both looked at them, Carson kept walking down the street, taking a glance in my direction then back ahead of him. Ryan was in front of Uncle jordy in seconds. He smiled, showing his teeth just like he did last night, his blonde hair was pulled back, showing off his warm, light brown eyes.
“Morning, Ariel and Mr. Langton."
“Morning, Ryan” Jordy said to him, his face relaxing a bit.
I just stared at him, not smiling nor speaking. Ryan cleared his throat, putting his hands deep into his pockets. “Mr. Langton, I was wondering if Carson and I could get a ride with Ariel to school? Well, Carson to school and then-"
“If you can get Ariel to school, and make sure she’s at school, then you can have the car the whole day. But remember to pick her up after school” Jordy said, cutting Him off.
My jaw was on the floor now, Carson was back waiting for Ryan as he watched my expression. Ryan’s smile got even wider as he walked over to us. “I promise to make sure she goes to school and that I pick her up after school” he said with a hand over his heart.
I felt Uncle Jordy go into my front pockets and heard the sound of my cars keys by my ears. “You're giving him my keys?” I asked, nearly yelling.
“Yup” he said throwing the keys at Ryan. He caught them (but just barely). And walked over to the car. Jordy grabbed my arm and we moved out of the way and Ryan got into the passenger’s seat, moving the seat that I spent so much time getting perfect for my height all the way back.
“In the back Ariel” Jordy said, opening the back seat door for me. I gritted my teeth and got in, heat radiating from my body as he started up the car and we drove in front of Carson.
“Get in bro, we’re getting a ride.”

The bell rang and stormed off to my first period class, English. I was furious with the facet that Ryan (a guy we barely knew) was driving around town in my car. My shoulders were hunched as I walked away from Carson (who I barely said a word too).
“Still, Things could be much worse” He whispered into my ear. I kept walking, only turning back to see Carson with his hands in his pockets staring at me. He had no clue just how bad my life was.
Carson’s POV
“It seems like you like her” Ryan said smirking, “Did I mention how much I hate walking?"
I shook my head, my black hair getting into my eyes. “No, I just know what she’s going through."
We walked up the hill, the warm sun shining on our backs. Ryan was my older brother, someone I barely saw throughout my whole childhood, and now he was right in front of me. The last time I saw him, I was fifteen.
“Dare me to do it?"
“Do what?” I asked looking up at him.
He put a hand through his blonde hair and stared at Ariel and her uncle. “Dare me, to ask for a ride?"
I sighed, “Do it. I doubt you’ll get it though."
He moved his hand in front of me, “I bet you fifty bucks that I can get a ride."
Instantly, I shook his hand. I already knew he wasn’t going to win this bet. He walked over to them, his body was relaxed and calm. I kept walking down the street, only to walk back to Ariel’s house and to see Mr. Langton pass Ryan the keys and Ariel’s face full of rage.
Ryan started the car, I was in disbelief.
“Get in bro, we’re getting a ride."
I owed someone some money now.
Ryan’s POV
It has been almost three years now. I drove around the town, trying to find a place that Carson and I could go to. The only reason, I was with my family was because of him. Him and the fact that he tried to commit suicide.
I shivered as I got goosebumps on my arms. Even though I knew that I abandoned him, I knew that I had to stop him. Stop him….
But was he still, after one year? Did mom know?
The questions that popped into my head were endless. But still, things could have been worse.
