Chapter Three

Everything was going good for two weeks... two weeks of Kate having Kai or Lucy spend the night... two weeks of Kai and Lucy randomly showing up at her apartment with food.

But that's when Kate realized they were trying to one up each other. Trying to get her to ignore the other.

The blonde was currently making her way into the bullpen with a file in her hands. Her baby bump was a little more noticeable today, mainly because she had been in a rush to get to work and just grabbed a random shirt and pair of jeans.

The team was gathered in Jane's office as they discussed their most recent case.

Making her way into Jane's office, Kate paused and frowned upon seeing the whole team in there. "Oh, should I come back?" She asked, thinking she'd interrupted a team meeting.

"Not at all, you're part of the team too." Jane said with a smile.

Lucy stood up and let Kate sit in her chair.

"So, Lucy, you're happy to go undercover on this one?" Jane asked, getting back to the conversation.

"Yeah." Lucy said, nodding her head.

Kate frowned in confusion, feeling like she'd missed a breakthrough in the case. "Undercover? For what?" She asked, crossing her arms over her chest, wincing slightly, her breasts were tender.

"We need Lucy to get close to a particular drug dealer who's dealing to navy recruits to get him to confess." Jane explained.

Shaking her head, Kate looked toward Lucy before looking back at Jane. "You don't need that, if you look in the file, you'll see that the FBI already has someone undercover." She said calmly.

"Not that I don't trust the FBI, but I'd feel a bit better having one of my own in there, in case things go wrong." Jane explained.

Kate groaned softly and dropped her head into her hands. "If you send someone else in, there will be more problems. Our guy could get found out." She said, reminding Jane that she was FBI now.

"And Lucy is good, she won't cause your guy any trouble." Jane argued in a calm voice. She nodded for Lucy to leave and begin getting ready to go undercover.

The shorter dark haired woman obediently followed her instructions, heading for the door.

Kate stood up and began pacing back and forth. "No, she doesn't need to go undercover." She said, tears of frustration filling her eyes. Stupid hormones.

"This isn't up for discussion, Whistler, either you stay here and shut up and watch how this plays out or you leave and let us do our jobs." Jane said calmly.

Kate instantly tensed up before rushing out of the office, making her way towards the bathrooms.

Kai frowned and looked at Jane. "Tennant, you can't talk to her like that." He said protectively, he knew stress wasn't good for the baby.

"You can leave too Kai." Jane said. She wouldn't have insubordination on her team.

Shaking his head, Kai ran a hand through his hair. "Tennant, I'm not trying to be difficult. It's just, at the last doctor's appointment, Kate was told to take it easy." He explained, looking at his boss.

"Then go comfort her and calm her down. Lucy is going undercover." Jane said, nodding towards the door.

Taking a deep breath, Kai nodded his head before going after Kate.

The blonde was making her way out of the bathroom, having lost the contents of her lunch before brushing her teeth and gargling mouthwash.

"Hey, are you okay?" Kai asked softly as he leaned against the wall.
