Soft air blew through the window, blowing wavy blonde air out of closed eyes as a deep exhale of breath filled the room and only soft mumbling could be heard. The woman's lips parted as her hands gripped the window sill and her eyes fluttered open. The air was cold, representing the snow-covered area, but the woman did not care about the temperature. It could have been cold as ice and she would still breathe in the air happily as a form of calm.
"You should be in bed."
The Finnish words came from behind her as someone moved to stand next to the woman, an arm going around her shoulder and causing her to lean her head against the man. Father-daughter relationships didn't often work out as well as this one did; this one was inseparable, a lifetime of understanding even without words. It was love and care through everything.
"When have I ever done anything I'm told?" Anneli Raïkkonën whispered back. "You told me to never do anything I don't want to. I don't want to be in bed."
"You and I both know medical purposes don't count in that statement," Kimi Raïkkonen responded. "What's wrong?"
"I'm not ready for this. I'm not ready to care for a tiny human."
"I wasn't ready for you either but you turned out okay."
Anneli gave him a small chuckle as she turned back slightly to look at the other four people in the room.
"If you're not ready, Max clearly is," Kimi added pointedly, nodding towards Max Verstappen.
The Dutchman was holding his child in his arms, looking down with a smile and love-filled eyes. His sister, Victoria, and mother were at one side of him. At the other side was Anneli's stepmother Minttu.
Anneli trusted Max completely and devotedly, she wouldn't have married him if she didn't. For someone who didn't have an interest in marriage or kids, it proved Max was worth it.
"Now please get back in bed before a doctor shouts at you," Kimi insisted.
Anneli nodded and slowly got back into bed. She'd been in the hospital for three days now, waiting for the go-ahead to go home. Max had stayed with her the entire time, sleeping on the chair or climbing into the bed with Anneli, only just being able to fit. She kept telling him to go home but he wouldn't go. He went home to shower and get clean clothes and that was it. He wanted to be with Anneli and his newborn son.
Aari Kimi Verstappen.
Max didn't have any strong opinions on what he wanted the name to be and was happy for Anneli to decide. So, she stuck to her Finnish roots.
"He's such a cute baby," Victoria fawned. "Let's hope he doesn't get your looks, Max—"
"Really Vic?" Max groaned.
"Anneli is beautiful, he better be blessed with her genes, that's all I'm saying."
Anneli was thankful for many things in her life and while genes weren't one of them, she was glad to be blessed with her family. She felt even luckier that she was with someone as heartfelt as Max, who uprooted his life in Monaco and moved out to Switzerland to live with her, never even arguing or suggesting moving to the Netherlands. He knew it was her home and he knew she felt safe there. That's all he wanted.
He'd always do what he wanted and so would Anneli. He was just glad the accident that they didn't prepare for was something he'd always wanted anyway and Anneli agreed that she'd keep it because she trusted Max. Admittedly she'd likely never have planned to have a baby but now she did, she was happy with just the one.
She'd go back to racing, admittedly, because it was her life. She had never actively wanted kids but she knew she'd grow to love her son and Max would treat him like the best thing in the world. Max was going to retired and look after him full time to allow Anneli to race full time; it was devotion and it was love.
"You don't regret this, do you?" Max asked quietly once their family had left.
"I'd never regret something like this Max," Anneli promised. "You know I don't do anything I don't want to do. It's just nerves."
"I thought you couldn't get nervous," Teased Max, hosting a small smile.
"Just this once."
