Mai Chen could confirm that love existed.

Mai Chen could also confirm that love really fucking sucked.

Mai apologises for the language but emphasises that she still means it.

She wasn't sure where it went wrong, perhaps they had been so tied up in the illusion that Mai knew what she was doing when she started dating a Formula 1 driver that they forgot she could handle it. She could handle the pressure of it all, no matter how amazing the person she adored was.

And God knew it wasn't Pierre Gasly's fault. It was Mai, just like it always was, in her mind anyway. A lifelong belief that love was fake was still suck in her brain but had morphed into more a resentment of it rather than disbelief of it.

So here she was, sat on some steps as she bawled her eyes out like a teenage girl. She knew she should get it together, she'd been the one to break up with Pierre despite his begging not to and she was the one who had not spoken to him in four weeks.

Why was she so upset?

Popcorn whined at her feet as the service dog tried to make Mai feel better. Popcorn had little luck on the matter, only receiving a pat on the head as a thanks for the attempt.

"This is sad to watch."

The voice was familiar and Mai didn't even have to look up to know who it was.

"Maybe but it is my own fault so I deserve this," She mumbled, sniffling.

"You aren't supposed to be out in the cold, Mai," Yuki Tsunoda warned as he sat beside her, holding up the umbrella."You will get sick and I don't want you to get more sick than you are."

"What does it matter?" Mai cried. "All I do is mess things up and now I don't even know if what I have done is right."

"Do you want my honest opinion?" Yuki asked slowly, making sure to get his English correct.

"It can't hurt me now, can it?"

Her deflated voice made Yuki frown. The two had been good friends while Mai was dating Pierre and she didn't lose touch with him. Besides, Pierre and Yuki were no longer teammate so there was last chance of Mai seeing Pierre if she wanted to visit Yuki.
