As I gently open the window, a breathtaking sight greets my eyes - the sunset today is beautiful. However, amidst this captivating spectacle, my attention is diverted towards the familiar face of my mother diligently washing clothes in front of our humble abode. I am compelled to join her. Hastily, I place the comb down on the dresser, my hair still loose, cascading around my shoulder. With a swift motion, I gather my tresses and secure them into a neat bun. I swiftly exit the room. As I approach my mother, a gentle smile graces her weary face, illuminated by the soft glow of the setting sun. Without a word, I position myself beside her, ready to assist in any way I can.
"Let me take care of this, mamá."
"Are you certain you can manage it?"
"Sí, mamá."
"Alright then, I have finished washing the clothes. Please be cautious when hanging them up, ensuring they don't get dirty. I will go and prepare breakfast now."
"Isabeeeeel! Isabeeeeel!" Maria exclaimed, her voice filled with urgency as she hurried towards me. I could sense the excitement and anticipation in her eyes as she approached.
"What's happening to you?" I asked, curious about the reason behind her sudden rush.
"Have you heard the rumors?!" Maria asked, her voice almost trembling with excitement.
"Hmm, no, what rumors?" I replied, intrigued by her mysterious tone.
"I heard that there was a gathering last night," Maria began, her voice barely containing her excitement. "And there's this gentleman who arrived, making everyone dazed because of his captivating looks. His mere presence seemed to have enchanted the entire room." "Also," Maria continued, "knowing that the gathering was exclusively for wealthy guests, even Padre Pablo was there. It suggests that this man must hold a high position."
"So? Isn't Antonio already trying to win your affections? Aren't you no longer interested in him?"
"No, that's not what I meant," Maria clarified, wanting to clear any misunderstandings.
"Then why the sudden interest in this mysterious gentleman?" I questioned.
"It's nothing, really. I just wanted to share the rumors I heard. I thought you might find it intriguing," Maria explained.
"What?! No way," I exclaimed, dismissing the idea entirely.
"Well, you never know. Maybe you'll have the chance to meet him soon," Maria suggested optimistically.
"Stop daydreaming, Maria, and just help me hang these clothes."
After carefully hanging the clothes, my mother's voice echoed through the house, beckoning me and Maria to come inside and join her for breakfast. The tantalizing aroma of coffee wafted through the air, creating an irresistible allure that made our stomachs growl in anticipation. We eagerly made our way to the kitchen, where the table was set with rice and mouthwatering adobo. As we settled into our seats, my mother's radiant smile filled the room with an infectious warmth.
"Señora Amalia, I must say, your culinary skills are truly exceptional. The flavors in your adobo are absolutely irresistible."
"It's my mamá, special dish, right mamá?"
"Sí, It warms my heart to hear you say that, Maria. Please, don't hesitate to indulge yourself further."
"Gracias, señora Amalia."
"I heard that Padre Pablo was indeed present at the gathering last night."
"Si, señora," Maria responded, confirming the information shared.
As the news settled in and the realization sank in, our curiosity piqued and we started to wander, contemplating the possible motives that could have compelled the highly regarded Padre Pablo to attend the gathering.
