Slowly, Dazai regained consciousness in Chuuya's arms. His friend had saved him, yet the anguish was plain to see.
"Chuuya...you fought it off. I knew you could," Dazai said weakly. But Chuuya sobbed, "Not for long...it's getting stronger. I don't know how much longer I can control it!"
Dazai cupped Chuuya's cheek. "We'll find a way. You're not alone in this."Just then, shrieks rang out down the hall. Other vampiric inmates had sensed Dazai's ability activate - and also Chuuya's fresh bloodlust. They came hunting.
Chuuya helped Dazai stand as a horde of vampires rounded the corner. This was a fight they couldn't win in their states. Chuuya steeled himself, opening his mind to the call of his ability within.
"Run. I'll hold them off," he said darkly. Dazai hesitated but knew Chuuya's instincts were all that could save them now. As Dazai fled, Chuuya let the corruption take over, meeting the mob with unholy power. But how long before the bloodshed consumed his humanity too? Dazai strained to hear the battle behind. All depended on Chuuya maintaining control long enough for escape.Dazai stumbled down the crumbling hallway, lungs still burning. Behind him, the shrieks and crashes of Chuuya's battle echoed grimly. He had to find a way to help Chuuya fight the vampirism for good. But how? As ability users, their strengths laid in skill, not scientific research.Dazai slowed as dizzying pain overtook him. He leaned against the wall, sliding down weakly. All seemed lost, until he spotted a steel door ahead, different than the prison cells.
