With a final surge, Dazai hauled himself upright and shoved against the door. It groaned open to reveal a dusty laboratory tucked within Mersault's depths. Shelves held rows of handwritten journals. Dazai grabbed the first, flipping rapidly as snippets caught his eye:"Subject 4A displays increasing irrational behaviors...injections of serum B may counteract vampiric mental influence..."
Hope rose in Dazai's chest. If this mysterious researcher had come close to a cure, perhaps with his ability to comprehend quickly, Dazai could unlock the secret! He had to get these notes to Chuuya. Now they just had to survive long enough to make use of any solution.
Dazai poured over the notes frantically, ideas sparking in his mind. According to the faded writings, this researcher had isolated a protein in V-serum that reacted to vampiric infection. Subjects administered it gained brief moments of clarity, fighting bloodlust. But past tests ended badly when the protein degraded, control becoming lost.
If he could just stabilize the molecule's structure, Dazai believed this V-serum could cure Chuuya permanently. But how, without advanced equipment?
Then he noticed diagrams for homemade stabilizing agents. With quick experimentation, Dazai combined available chemicals into a makeshift version. Now charged with a plan, Dazai raced back down the hall. But the screams ahead had fallen ominously silent.
He rounded the corner to a scene of carnage. Dead vampires littered the ground as Chuuya stood, hands coated in fresh blood. But something was different—his eyes shown with an ethereal glow. "Chuuya!" Dazai cried, injecting the serum before the vampirism took fully over. For a tense moment, nothing happened...then Chuuya collapsed with a gasp. Had it worked? Or was Dazai now too late?
