Today was not as usual, Marwa woke up before her alarm clock went off. She couldn't sleep last night, social media stories from the families of her friends who passed away brought old memories flooding back.
When our eyes fill with tears, the world seems to be seen through a hazy window of pain. Tears are an expression of the tenderness of a heart shaken by grief, flowing endlessly as if to cleanse an invisible inner wound. Every tear that flows is an attempt to try to understand the emptiness left behind.
Losing someone teaches us the value of their presence in our lives.
Someone knocked on Marwa's bedroom door. "Kid, are you awake, can I come in?"
"Yes... just come in." Marwa replied while rubbing her puffy eyes.
Mr Zamir slowly opened the door to his daughter's room and sat next to Marwa. "I heard the news from Yasna's father."
When her father mentioned the name of his friend who died in the land of Najmalla, Marwa's eyes watered again. She struggled to hold back her tears.
Seeing that Mr Zamir patted Marwa's shoulder, he tried to calm Marwa who began to shed tears. "It's okay. May their good deeds be accepted."

With the mourning atmosphere, Alzarqa Hospital continued to operate as usual with only a few workers there who had too much on their minds.
At the reception desk, Marwa was having a small chat with the staff there. They exchanged stories about how shocked they were to hear the sad news from their friends in Najmalla.
"When I first started working here, the doctors welcomed me well, including them."
"Yes, it's sad to accept the fact that they're leaving us forever."
Marwa nodded in agreement, "Of course. I can't imagine how their families feel."
The buzzer from the sound system suddenly sounded, bringing their conversation to a halt. It could be heard that the nurses and doctors who were on break immediately headed towards the courtyard. Then Marwa, the nurses, and doctors immediately went to the courtyard for who knows what.
In the large courtyard, the cool air was blown with a cloudy wind. The atmosphere was tense, as if time had stopped as we waited for the announcement we were waiting for.
"Why are we gathered here?"
"Is this about 'them'?"
"I have a very bad feeling."
The view across the room was full of tense faces, tightly pursed lips, and eyes that reflected anxiety. Whispered voices travelled between the waiting people, creating a harmony of unspoken tension.
In the middle of it all, Mrs Nesrine, the board of directors of Alzarqa Hospital arrived with her posture firm and her hands carrying a stack of documents. Her face was completely flat whereas she was usually friendly and smiling. So what did she have to say?
“Peace be upon you, as well as the mercy of God and His blessings.” Greet Mrs Nesrine to everyone on the courtyard.
“May peace, mercy and blessings of God be upon you also.” Everyone answered Mrs Nesrine's greetings.
All eyes were focused on Mrs Nesrine who seemed to be about to make a very special announcement. The heartbeat felt as if it had stopped for a moment, and the breathing stopped in silence. Every expression, smile, or even helplessness on her face contributed to the tense atmosphere that was warm and full of emotion.
