Something's Off

1. Prologue

December 1st, Monday

5:30am

"Reko, Get up! You're going to be late for school!"

"..ugh.."

Reko slowly sat up on his bed. He scrubbed his eyes and stretched his arms.

"I wish I was homeschooled instead. Whatever.."

Reko then got up, went to the bathroom, and took a quick, cold shower. After, he quickly changed into his clothes. Before going downstairs, he took one look at himself.

"Hah, you still look like a piece of crap. Pathetic."

He then went down to the kitchen.

"Morning, Mom. Did you feed Mei already?" He rubbed the back of her right ear.

Mei is Reko's black, stubborn cat. They found her in a box in an alley. Once his mother took one look at her, she decided to adopt her for Reko. Reko was ten years old when they found Mei. Now, he is seventeen.

"Good morning. Yes, I did. And she ate quite a lot today! You should take her on those walks of yours."

"Ehhh, we'll see. Anyways, I'm going to go now."

"Alright. Have a good day at school, hun!"

"Sure, 'kay bye."

He grabbed his bag, put shoes on, and took off on his bike.

5:55am

"Phew, made it..."

He had arrived at school. Reko left his bike at the school's bike rack. He entered and quickly went to his locker to put his bag away.

Suddenly, a girl approached him. Her name was Jade. She's Reko's classmate who wouldn't leave him alone.

"Hey, Reko! How was your morning?"

He ignored her and stayed silent.

"Hmm... She whispers (did you light one this morning)?"

That threw him off guard.

"What the f#ck are you talking about?"

"Take a chill pill- I know you smoke. Though, I also know it's too early to be doing that."

She chuckled. Reko started to get irritated by her again.

"Shut up... Leave me alone. You're pissing me off."

"Fine, I'll leave you alone. Just wanted to tell you that we have a new student."

"I could've found that out on my own."

"Okay, Mr. Edgelord. Anyways, see ya!"

Reko watched as she walked away from him. This was already an annoying start to his day. He then thought of the new student and decided to check them out for no reason.

As he walked into the building more, he paid attention to people's chatter about the new student. He learned that the new guy's name was Kasper. He also read from them that some thought he was attractive and charming, and he read that some were jealous of him.

Reko rolled his eyes hearing all of this. He then reached a crowd, surrounding Kasper. He passed through them and took a glance at him.

He was tall, had blonde hair and brown eyes, gave off friendly vibes, and smiled brightly at others.

For a split second, Reko and Kasper made eye contact. And when they did, Reko saw something else. He saw that something was off about the new guy.
