This was the seventh man that Teylang had watched die before his waking eyes this evening.
Teylang's hands trembled as he stared at the lifeless body before him. His voice quivered as he turned to his companion, Gervin.
"Gervin, this... this can't go on. I can't bear to witness death after death. It's tearing me apart." He said.
Gervin, a seasoned warrior with a scarred face, placed a comforting hand on Teylang's shoulder. "I know it's hard, my friend. War always brings pain and suffering. But remember, we fight for something greater. We fight for the people who cannot defend themselves. Stay strong."
Teylang's eyes filled with tears, but determination flickered within them. "You're right, Gervin. We can't let despair consume us. We must find a way to end this senseless violence and create a better future."
Gervin's lips curved in a solemn smile, affirming Teylang's words. "Exactly. Let's focus on the mission, Teylang. We'll push forward, protect the innocent, and bring an end to this darkness."
Teylang wiped his tears away, a newfound resolve shining through his grief-stricken expression. "Yes, Gervin. Together, we'll make a difference. We'll ensure that no more lives are lost in vain."
As they prepared to face their next challenge, Teylang and Gervin took a deep breath, ready to forge ahead against all odds.
Just then, a red, silver and black streaked past their staring eyes, with a greatsword in his hand was a mighty weapon, a broad dark blade designed to cleave the underbellies and membranous wings of dragons.
It was Prince Avok, King Coba's son.
Teylang and Gervin watched in astonishment as Prince Avok, his eyes ablaze with determination, joined them.
Prince Avok said."Teylang, Gervin, I heard your despair. Know that I stand with you in this fight. The time has come to vanquish the darkness that hangs over our land."
Teylang and Gervin exchanged glances, renewed hope filling their hearts. "Prince Avok, your presence brings us strength. With your skill and leadership, we have a chance to turn the tide and bring peace to our people." Teylang said.
Prince Avok gripped his mighty sword tighter, the weight of responsibility evident in his voice. "It is my duty, as the son of King Coba, to protect our kingdom and its people. No sacrifice is too great."
Gervin nodded, his scarred face reflecting a mix of admiration and respect. "Your courage inspires us, Prince Avok. Together, we shall face the enemy, united in our quest for justice."
Suddenly, a distant explosion broke the silence, sending shockwaves through the air. Teylang, Gervin, and Prince Avok exchanged determined glances, their resolve deepening.
Teylang said."There's no time to waste. Our people are counting on us. Let's go, and may the winds of fate be on our side."
With a shared sense of purpose, Teylang, Gervin, and Prince Avok set forth, a trinity of warriors bound by honor and a shared dream of a brighter future. As they disappeared into the ever-darkening horizon, hope surged within them, propelling them forward towards their destiny.
As Teylang, Gervin, and Prince Avok arrived amidst the chaos caused by the explosion, smoke billowed into the air, obscuring their vision. They cautiously approached the site, weapons at the ready.
As they got closer, they heard the terrified screams of survivors. They quickly rushed in, determined to help those in need.
And what they saw was a massacre.
A dragon's claws sliced through the man's plate like butter, not steel. The cracked, dry earth drank his blood greedily as what remained of him tumbled towards spring, landing at his feet with a mix of sundered metal and a wet thump of dislodged organs.
