A Soldier's Secret

Part 27

"What do you want?" I snarled. I closed down the recordings and looked at them, with their somewhat guilty expressions.

"We need to tell you something, Cedar" Error said "Well, Danger has something to tell you" I stifled a groan and rolled my eyes. I stood up and leaned on the bedpost.

"There's no easy way to say this" Danger groaned, and he sighed and held his head for a moment"

"So just say it" I barked

"Cedar..." He started "I'm your father. You're not a clone" He said "Your mother died on Coruscant after you were born" 

For half a minute, the room was silent

And then I burst out laughing. I laughed so hard I couldn't breathe as everything I'd ever done flashed in my eyes "Ha-I-I can't believe it" I breathed, and I looked at Danger. He felt the emotion building behind me and took a step back "I can't believe it. I've been fighting in a war-HA!" I laughed, then stared directly at him 

"Cedar, it might be a lot to figure out-" He started 

"HA!" I shouted, "Guess what?" I laughed, and smiled "Guess what? I don't care. I DON'T CARE, DANGER!"

"Cedar..." He tried 

"Want to know why? Do you?" I smiled. He stumbled backwards, feeling the weight of my words "I NEVER NEEDED YOU, AND NOW YOU WALK IN HERE WITH YOUR FAKE CONFESSIONS AND HEARTFELT SPEECHES, WHILE YOU'VE DONE NOTHING TO EARN MY RESPECT! NONE OF YOU HAVE! ERROR, THE ONLY ONE WHO HAD AN INKLING OF A CHANCE, SHOVES ME AWAY. REX, WHO IS SO THICKHEADED. SONIC, WHO CHASED ME WITH A KNIFE, AND FURN, THE BUSY KNOW IT ALL. AND NOW YOU, WITH YOUR FAKE EVERYTHING. YOU KNOW WHAT I THINK? YOU'RE A WASHED-UP SPYMASTER WHO CAN'T FATHOM NOT HAVING THE SPOTLIGHT ON HIM. SO THERE!" I screamed

"Cedar! Hear him out, please" Error tried, but I was halfway to the door with my pack

"No" I snarled "Because if I'm not a clone, then why am I fighting?" I said and dashed down the hall and into a vent.

They tried desperately to find me as I crawled to the detention centre. When I reached Kelish's door, I opened it

"Cedar" He looked up from the floor

"We're getting out of here" I said, then started working on his chains "Stay here. When the alarm goes off, run like hell for the hangar" I finished with his chains, and he nodded.

I dashed to the boiler room and placed one item. I dashed into the med bay and placed another. I repeated until my pack was empty, and I got to the hangar and clicked the detonation.

The explosions racked the base as I scanned for a ship. I saw one, big enough for Kelish and me but small enough to go undetected. I was standing at the controls, and Danger with his batch rushed in behind me

"CEDAR!" Danger shouted over the flames "WHAT ARE YOU DOING?"

"I'm done, Danger" I said "I'm done" I stepped onto the control panel and made to step off the edge.

Danger rushed forward as I fell, and I knew what was going to happen

I fell for a second, and then I landed on the top of the ship, above Kelish, who sat at the controls. Danger and Error stared at me as I flew away.

"So, where are we headed?" Kelish asked me

"Felucia" I said, then kicked up the co-pilot

"I'm not going to question you," He said "What made you blow the base?"

"Turns out I'm not a clone," I said and pulled the ship up out of Hoth's atmosphere. "And my father was desperate to reconnect" 

"Well, you've always been one for emotional reunions" Kelish smirked, and I smacked his arm

"Let's get out of here," I said, and we jumped into hyperspace
