400 years after

For every living being aware of the existence of the Multiverse, the destruction of Birdtale Copy 12 was the beginning of the eternal battle between their Creator and the Destroyer of Universes.

For Ink, it was the day he almost lost his first friend.

―A barely cloudy sky, an energetic chat about all the AUs that Ink wanted to create, a calm voice as always providing advice or support, a voice that had acquired an almost pained tone over the last few weeks that he tried vainly to hide. ―

He could admit that his memory was far from perfect, at least when it came to small things, he could remember the names of all his creations or the important parts of the plot of his Universes, but it was the small details that he always seemed to forget.

―The warmth in his eyes disappeared against the will of their wearer, threads like tears falling to the ground as if he was hurt by what he was about to do―

Colors, expressions, likes, and dislikes; They all got mixed up in the entirety of the Multiverse and were consequently forgotten, he couldn't help it but it wasn't a problem for his daily life either, something he easily solved by writing it on his scarf.

―An apology for what he was about to do, Ink's confusion turning to horror the more Erimos spoke―

But then why?

Why could he remember that day in such detail?

―The revelation of the true identity of the skeleton in front of him, of the absolute torture of existence for which he was created, the confirmation of the cruelty of the one like him. ―

Years had passed since Birdtale Copy 12 was destroyed by Erimos and dozens of other Copy Universes. Years, but Ink could remember everything as if it were yesterday, down to the smallest detail.

He couldn't help but squeeze his brush when thinking about Erimos, how from one moment to the next his attitude changed, as if something had possessed him, all the signs that the until then calm and kind skeleton was suffering from something he couldn't control.

A suffering that Ink didn't know how to stop, at least not yet.

He knew the way the rest of his Multiverse viewed Erimos, a stone-souled being who had nothing but destruction on his mind, a threat that Ink must get rid of for all the lives he had taken in all these years.

It was the only thing where his creations did not trust Ink's word, for them he was being too kind and compassionate towards a being who did not deserve it, they believed that Erimos had tricked him with false kindness before showing his true colors, or worse, they believed Ink was right but thought the Destroyer was unsalvageable given his self-proclaimed purpose.

Because, if he was created by another being for the sole purpose of destroying the AUs that his Creator no longer wanted around, why should they even try to reason with him? Or try to stop him in any way other than eliminating him?

(Over the years most even stopped calling him Erimos, in an act of pettiness they had started calling him only "The Destroyer" or "Error", even if they refrained from calling him the latest when Ink was around).

But they didn't know Erimos like Ink did, they didn't see or understand the things that he as a Creator could, even if it was his nature, it was obvious that he regretted destroying Ink's work.

Why would he warn him if he didn't feel it?

Why apologize to him before AND after the first time he destroyed his AUs?
