"Family", Anna thought. "I finally have a family."
For the first time in so many years, she felt true happiness. She was excited, impatient. She wanted all the answers, right here and right now. She felt as if a whirlwind of emotions was erupting from within her. She paused for a moment. She found herself in the semi-darkness of the hallway, trying to calm her thoughts and breathing, her rapidly beating heart.
"Breathe", she said aloud, closing her eyes for a moment.
As her heartbeats slowly slowed down and returned to normal, her reason awakened. Her brain worked hurriedly, piecing together fragments from her life into a pattern. She vividly remembered every snippet from her childhood. She had a photographic memory and never forgot anything. She delved deep into memories of that night when her parents died in a car accident. So many time she had tried to forget it. She remembered her mother's panicked behavior, waking her up in the middle of the night, half-asleep, and placing her in the car.
"Hurry, Sarah, we don't have much time", she heard her father's voice in her head.
She remembered him, hurriedly walking around the house, taking only the essentials. She felt the weight of grief and loss, but now she realized a deeper truth, letting her confront something more than loss - she was facing the unknown.
"They were running away", she abruptly opened her eyes.
She didn't know who they were running from or why they did it, but the realization shed new light on her past, triggering a wave of uncertainty and the need to find answers. Her thoughts returned to Vincent.
"Anna?" she heard a familiar baritone behind her.
She turned slowly. Gabriel stood in his full size, ready for the impending battle.
She looked him straight in the eyes. She didn't avert her gaze. She felt a new strength within herself. His dominance clashed with hers. She straightened her posture and clenched her fists.
Gabriel tilted his head.
"You smell of someone else's blood. Are you okay?" he asked in a serious tone.
Anna nodded affirmatively.
"What happened?" he asked.
She didn't answer.
He began to approach her slowly. He took a deep breath, gently closing his eyes for a moment. The closer he got to her, the more her senses seemed to rage within her. Every step closer sent a 'tsunami' of sensations to her receptors. He looked beautiful. The tone of his voice awakened her deepest desires. And he smelled like her favorite dessert.
"Mmm...", Anna said, closing her eyes for a moment, but soon opened them.
"Agh...", she grimaced with disgust.
"What did you smell?" Gabriel arrogantly laughed, getting closer slowly.
"Chanel No. 5", Anna replied irritably.
"It's too sweet", she commented with disgust.
"I agree, I don't like it either."
"Then you should mention that to Zara", she retorted, visibly jealous.
Gabriel just arrogantly laughed. Now he was very close to her.
"I sense her", he said in a whisper.
"Who?" Anna asked curiously.
"Your she-wolf", Gabriel smiled contentedly.
"You don't look surprised", he looked at her inquiringly.
