I ranged the door bell of a home that looked very nice. I stood at the doorstep with my sister and her pink little suitcase, she was munching on some candy that I got her, during the whole trip I had to bribe the kid with sweets, from the airport to our little road trip.

When we got to the house, I was so ready to get this kid out of the grace of my ass, it was no offense to the little precious thing, but right now I needed to be alone.

Knocking on the door and waiting, the man greeted me there, Alexa's father stood before me staring directly through my soul. He took a step to me and her and I couldn't help but flinched all of sudden, what he was taking a step to was to lean forward and grab the small suitcase. "We had so much funn daddy!" The little girls speech was slurred as she jumped up and down for him to pick her up.

I gave them a small smile as they were having their moment, He picked her up, "You did!? That's great!" He applauded her before looking back to me.

He looked me up and down stopping right at my hand. "What happened?" He asked showing fake concerned, please I could see right through it.

"Uh uh...I accidentally slammed it in my car door." I blurted as winced slightly in pain. "You sure it was safe to drive on that." He commented, I could tell he was slightly annoyed.

"It's fine, I can still move some of my fingers, a little pain doesn't hurt." I shrugged just saying anything.

"Just be careful on that."

"Got it."

"Anyways is mom in—"Before I could say anything the woman appeared right behind us, running to Alexa and taking from her father's arms. "Hey my princess!" She squealed greeting the girl with kisses.

A slight frown was pictured on my face as I saw their mother and daughter moment. That little girl was lucky in every single way, she was loved and I could feel it.

Without acknowledging me, my mother left me and her husband at the front door taking her daughter into the house with her suitcase. I took that as a sign of parting my way, but Alexa's father held me back.

"You want come in, maybe take it off with your broken hand."

"No I'm good, uhhh I need to go holla with someone since I'm here, I'll be around for a little while even for her birthday. I'll bring a gift or two." I rambled as I said anything from distracting myself with not going into the house, I didn't want to torture myself anymore that I could.

"You sure?" He asked. I nodded before walking away quietly.

Leaving the house, I wanted to cry but I couldn't I kept it all in, instead I unlocked my car getting right inside, I started up the car and pulled out of the driveway of the home.

I felt like the only one who could try to understand me was Aaliyah, leaving my mother's house I went to hers asking of course missy if she lived in the same place, which she did. I gave her a quick call before I showed up keeping it short and simple, I didn't say much over the phone but enough to let her know I did want to see her.

"Hey." I said to Aaliyah as she let me inside. She gave me a nod before she shut the door back behind me. I turned around clutching my purse, I stared her up and down for a second noticing that she was freely put together, her hair was in a messy bun and she was wearing black shorts with a small matching tank top. She looked tired.

"You poor thing, have you even taken a break at all this week?"

Aaliyah shrugged not saying anything. She went past me towards her living room which was in the middle opening of the entrance and sat down on her coach where I guessed she was resting before. "I can go if it's a bad time, I'm sure you want to catch up on some sleep."

"I'm alright. I wasn't that tired anyways." She sighed.

"Okay." I uttered. Aaliyah stared at me, waiting patiently for me to say anything else. "What?" I questioned as the awkward attention fell through on me in the room. Aaliyah shook her head, her dimples piercing out.

"It's just if your here to be a bit—-"

"I'm not. I'm not. I'm not." I repeated over and over. I let out a cough before I continued, Aaliyah signal for me to come sit down as she could see I was little uncomfortable, she tapped the open area by her in which I went to sit directly towards.

"It's just a lot going on." I started the conversation off. "What?" She asked confused still waiting for me to say what I had to say.

"What, you're pregnant or something?" Aaliyah guessed, her words causing my brows to furrow. "I hope not," I scoffed. "Wouldn't that be a blessing for you and your husband?"

Shaking my head. "Not funny," I said calmly under my breath. Aaliyah sat up a little more, her concern luring as my head remained bowed to the floor.

My second thoughts came jumping in, I began to get up, "I shouldn't have came." But before take a step she pulled me back by my arm making me flinch.

"What happened to your hand?" she asked me.

The silence between us spoke volumes, and Aaliyah's concern quickly turned to confusion.

"Courtney..."

I didn't say anything, just kept my head down. "Did he put his hands on you?"

I shook my head, but Aaliyah didn't seem convinced.

Aaliyah began to stand up, "You wouldn't call me if it wasn't serious let alone even come around."

Aaliyah reached out, her hand gently touching my shoulder. "Courtney, you can talk to me. I'm here for you."

"Sit." She told me and I did.

I took a deep breath, my voice barely above a whisper. "It was just an accident."

Her eyes narrowed, not buying my excuse. "Courtney, accidents don't break your fucking hand." She was pissed now

I bit my lip, feeling the weight of her words. "I... I didn't mean to make him angry. It's just..."

Tears welled up in my eyes as I was trying to continue. "I'm so tired liyah, I'm just so tired." I looked at the girl as for once I felt so broken, I hated that she had to see me like this but she was the only one who could understand.

"Every time someone tries to love me, it just hurts so much." I said each and every word with the pain in my heart. "That's not love, it's not." Aaliyah nodded my way as she wiped the tears from my cheek.

I removed her hands shaking my head. "I deserve it, I'm an awful person." Kevin was the exact person I was if not worse, He was felt like my karma.

"No you don't. Stop saying that." In the midst she laid my head on her shoulder holding me. "Stop."

I breathed out as I held onto her as well, I felt my heart beating and I couldn't control the feeling, I huffed and let it all out, the pain just everything.

"Your not going back you can stay here as long as you want, hell—-all I know is he better not be fucking five feet towards you." She said promising me.

For once I felt safe. I felt like someone cared for me and that was just a feeling I hadn't felt since the day I left her.
