Mother Prayer

Listen, my beautiful child,

Let this letter carry you,

Let it float in this ocean,

Let its waves soothe your heart.

There once were hearts that gave all,

Beneath this cloudless sky

The smile on your face told me all,

Like a warm blanket, it was comfort.

Remember the days I taught you plays?

The days you would come home,

Babbling about your day at school

The days you would fake being ill.

I remember, they used to make me laugh,

Now, they tear me up, the memories,

The days we laughed till the sun sets,

The nights that ended with joyful hums

There always have been the Almighty

As I let my hands in this soft sand

I thank for His blessings, every single one,

There always have been God,

Watching for us in the bleak midwinter.
