"Perhaps yesterday you didn't need to cook so much. At least today you can stay home if there are still food supplies," Mingi commented on Yunho's morning routine, even though both of his hands were still busy helping Yunho close the holes in his woven bag.
Turning slightly, Yunho smiled. "It would be a waste to store it. While there are many people, it's better to eat it all. Rarely do I get two other people for dinner. Besides, even if I have enough leftover food for dinner, I'll still go out."
Mingi could already anticipate that answer. He only had two reasons. Either Yunho was honest that he just enjoyed spending time outdoors, or he was involved with drugs. Maybe there was a secret lab around here that Yunho had to monitor every day, which was why he couldn't skip leaving the house.
And today, Mingi intended to investigate further. He had no hope of returning to search Yunho's house. Even openly following him didn't yield any results.
"You are indeed stubborn," Mingi handed over the repaired bag. "Be careful then. I'll wait at home."
Mingi had promised to obey Hongjoong's orders, that if within three days they didn't find anything, then Yunho would be declared innocent, and they would start investigating other potential suspects. It was already the fourth day, to be honest. But Mingi still wasn't completely satisfied. As a last effort, he followed Yunho secretly into the forest.
Carefully, Mingi kept his distance from Yunho, giving him space to move without fearing that any sound he made would make Yunho alert, but also not losing track of him.
Today Yunho left a bit later than usual from what Mingi saw. It seemed that this morning Yunho was busy with some firewood that got wet from the rain. It would be a problem if they weren't dry by tonight. According to Mingi's estimation, Yunho would work more today, unlike yesterday when he calmly played in the flower garden and took a nap.
But Mingi's assumption was contradicted afterward.
Initially, Mingi thought that by following him like this, Yunho would do his original work that he couldn't do when Mingi accompanied him yesterday. But what he found was just someone's common work of searching for food.
From morning until noon, Yunho moved from place to place, trying to hunt for animals. Three times he almost caught a squirrel, but it always escaped in the end. He didn't bring a fishing rod, so he passed the river too. By noon, it was already too hot, Yunho sought shade under the same shady tree as yesterday, stretched out his legs, and began to doze off.
Mingi stood still, watching Yunho in the distance. A clear smile played on his lips.
"It's really not you, Yun. Thank goodness."
Now Mingi understood that the reason why Yunho always came home in the evening while his catch wasn't that great was because finding food in the forest was indeed that difficult. Mingi had underestimated Yunho's work, so he insisted on accusing Yunho of being involved with drugs in the forest.
He also understood now why Yunho often took a detour deep into the forest, where the drug warehouse was located. If he took the main road, it would take a long time to get to where the river, flower garden, and animal habitats were, because it was already frequently passed by humans.
At least Mingi could now make a tidy assumption, although there were still questions in his mind about Yunho's hurried walk after seeing the warehouse raided.
Yunho went to the park again, just to see a few flowers and play with insects. He spent a lot of time there until late afternoon. After hurrying away, he picked some fruits on the way, filling the bag that was initially too light.
"Oh, you're back? I just came from the warehouse, sorting out firewood," Mingi lied as he entered the house, finding Yunho confusedly looking for him.
