CHAP : IX
only the bravest of allHe stood there, all dapper, waiting for you.
Jing Yuan was a man of his word, (in his twisted way), and as he said, he stood at the entrance of the central starskiff haven. It was a pleasant evening, perfect for a date! He had so much planned for you that he almost couldn't hold his excitement when he saw your silhouette from a distance. The more closer you got, the calmer his state of mind became. It's a perfect example of the saying 'the calm before the storm'; it clearly exists for a reason.
You looked breathtaking, to say the least, no amount of words can describe the way his heart swelled and tightened at the sight of you. He cleared his throat and smiled genuinely the closer you got. You waved at him shyly, and he walked over to you. "Good evening, Jing Yuan..." You were the first to greet him.
"And to you as well, y/n," he slightly bowed his head. "You look lovely this evening." He took your hand and placed a kiss on top of it. He read in a book somewhere that a kiss on the top of a lady's hand can symbolize respect, admiration, or devotion. In Jing Yuan's case, he means all of them.
A raging hue graces your face at his gesture, which causes him to smile more. "We've barely even gone on the date," he teased. On the other hand, you were covering your mouth in embarrassment. He noticed how different you were now from the playful demeanour you usually carried.
"Shall we then?" He offered his arm, and you reluctantly linked it with his. The journey to the restaurant was almost quiet, except for when Jing Yuan explained a few things you asked him about Luofu.
The two of you made it to the place and sat at the restaurant. Placing your order as the waiter came.
"I heard the food here is good," he started. "It probably is, seeing the crowd." You looked around the restaurant, noticing how some people peered and glanced at your table. Jing Yuan noticed your uncomfortable expression and pulled his chair closer to yours, to hide both your faces from the crowd.
"Better?" He asked. "Yes," you answered with a small smile. Jing Yuan returned the smile. 'The conversations today are oddly enough dry...' He thought to himself, then cleared his throat. "So Miss y/n!" He began. "I don't think you've ever told me how you ended up on the Astral Express. Please ignore my question if it's a sensitive topic." He faced you, clearly curious about the women he loved.
"Oh, uhm... it's a completely valid question. Gen- Jing Yuan, where shall I begin?" You bit your bottom lip. "I've had a typical childhood of a burnt-out gifted kid, as one may call it... I was the pride and joy of the family, so it brought unrealistic expectations on me. My parents made me do everything I could, from instruments to art, languages, and academics; they probably meant well at the start." You chuckled weakly.
"I soon became a project to perfect for the other to be without imperfection," you tapped the table. "Ah right, how I joined the express!" Jing Yuan had his head in his hand, listening intently.
